I was thinking about possibly (remote possibility here) doing black under dash panels, shifter console and e-brake console, then replacing the tan plastic around the door cards with black and doing black armrests, etc. Leave everything else the same. I think it would be interesting.

I think that would look good. If you don't like it, you can always swap it right back ;)

I'm in the process of doing that in my Blue interior and I really like it so far. I still need to find a few parts...

The thing for me is that pearl beige is such a sharp contrast to black, which is why I'm still not sure.

If you want, I've got pictures of Charles Gray's old 533 interior which is pretty much what you're doing.

Sorry, Zundfolge, but those door panels are fugly. The tan-over-black looks like some shoe a playa/lawyer/golfer would wear.

There is a short shifter available that has the "T" handle lockout. They go for over $500. Also remember this is a four speed, top loader. A dinky short-shifter may not cut it for changing the gears in a timely manner.

Yea, you noticed that. One of the POs ruined the face of the tach by painting over the OEM red arch and added his own ham-fisted red line around 5.5K. The only way to fix it is to have the face re-screened. Just buying another one is really not cost effective - they go for over $300.

This is what it should look like -

You need black floor mats and I think it'd make a huge difference! Also consider making the headliner black.. Both of those additions might equal out the colors enough to make it work!
