e28 535is w/ 390's to e34 15" basketweaves

Post by Chimi-Changa »

Changing to regular size wheels/tires- and thanks for all the detailed information posted on this site about specific wheel fitments.
Quick question is: assuming need to convert the 72.5 hub to the 74mm size of the e34's ( have bought wheels already), if I run the reccomended (by most?) 205/60/15 tires- would 5mm spacers require new Lug bolts, and would there be any fender clearance issues? Would a 205/55/15 help? Car is totally stock.
Thanks in advance, and sorry of this specific information is posted already and I did not see yet.

I am running the e34 15" style 5 [ basketwaves ] with 215/60 R15 W Goodyear Eagle GT . and I don't need no spacers nor hub rings . all of the BMW OE e34 wheels are the same hub bores like the e28 . on the other hand all of the e38 and e39 are with the larger bore size than the e28 , so you will need rings for those wheels . don't put those chevycavalire tire size - 205... , they look stupid !

You should tell us the new wheel size, for example 7x15 et 20. If the offset ( et xx) on the new wheels is in the 20-25mm range you probably don't need a spacer but you will want some hubcentric rings at a minimum that make up the difference in the bore sizes. With a 25 mm offset (or even 20) a 5mm spacer would be fine if it also centers the hub. If the new wheels have a higher offset than 25 you migh want a spacer to bring it back to 20ish.

I would not go smaller than 205/60 -15 since it is already slightly undersized from stock diameter. And just for example a 205/55-16 on a 7 or 7.5x16 et 20 fits with no issues like it was meant for an e28.

Woops- newer wheels off a 94 530i and are et20 7"x15 Fundo's and look like have a 74mm bore hole.
would rather avoid spacers and longer bolts if I can..

E34 wheels don't have 74mm bores, they have 72.5mm bores just like the E28. You don't need spacers or hubcentric rings, just bolt them on.

If they are from the e39 then you will need hubcentric rings and that will be it. No need for spacers or longer bolts with those wheels. Just get a decent tire and enjoy!
