The ultimate '80s/'90s drug dealer car

Thinking back to the "coke box" in my BMW E24, I'm intrigued to see which '80s/'90s cars are the epitome of drug dealer cars. Here is a picture of the "coke box" compartment of the E28 based E24. It's basically a flip-up arm rest.




I'll have to nominate the Mercedes W126 500/560 SEC as the ultimate '80s/'90s drug dealer car.

When I was parking cars for popular nightclubs in the late 80's the real goods were always in the trim holding up the headliner. Always in and under the trim throughout. I remember the GM cars had the most room and flexibility for storage. Pot was always packed under the seat or in the glovebox for some reason. The glovebox locks but the valet still has the key, right?
The Jaguars never had anything for some reason.

Yes, forgot about those. Add yellow wheels and make the wheel arches gold along with the trim and lettering. Oh and keep it white.

The "smugglers box" behind the seats were obvious, but my friend doing a resto found a package of cocaine hidden in the seat about two years ago on a car he has owned for about 12 years! Glad they never called the dogs on him at a traffic stop.
And when I say hidden... Under the fabric, with a plug of foam cut out of the seat, stashed and covered with a section of the plug. Must have been a couple ounces, with packaging that looked like it was from the mid 80s.

Somewhat related I have another friend fighting cocaine possession charges on a Caprice he had bought. He was pulled over one day, not long after buying it, and the cops decided they wanted to have the car combed over by drug dogs. Passenger door had 20-30 little baggies with cocaine residue in them. The PO/POs passenger had been feeding the baggies down the window channel.

This type of thing is actually very common. I learned a very valuable lesson many years ago in this regard. The highlights of the story are these:

Some farmers' bought a 1955 Rockwell AeroCommander
I got a job flying it for them
It had a "sketchy" past, with a long "information" file (drugs) which we only learned after I was read my rights at the police station.
(A routine sniff of the flight line, and the dogs alerted to it)
I had a key to the plane (aka "possession" of the plane)
State Attorneys' Office wanted that plane (and me)
I had friends who were lawyers and cops in town, thankfully.
No charges filed, cost the farmers' $15k to get the plane back.

When you buy or operate a used vehicle, better be damn sure it's clean...especially in Florida.

Did they "properly dispose" of the cocaine?

OTOH, sucks balls for your friend who had the caprice. What horrible luck.

got a 190e in for parts years ago with huge bbs wheels, a strong box welded in the trunk, a shitload of court papers in the glove box for drug charges and suspicious little nuggets around the console

I had a friend in high school who was the most straight laced guy amongst the rest of us. One day during a "routine safety drill" aka "drug sniffing dogs roam the halls and parking lot", a dog pointed out this friend's car that he had just bought a few days prior. They had him open it and they tore through it like he was a smuggler. They found ONE pot seed under the rear seat. Nothing ever happened to him but it was pretty funny watching him sweat bullets the rest of the day.

haha nice stories.. I was working at a business about a year ago and a neighbour lady walked in to collect empties for the scouts, and she had this huge bag of coke in her hands that had just fallen out of a passing motorcyclists pocket as she had walked over.. she thought it was food or detergent! She came to ask us what we thought it was. it wasnt that big maybe an oz tops, but still worth 1000-1200 in this area..

My buddy's family business is a very prominent car dealer in a big city. They sold a car (an Avalanche)with a coke baggie stuffed between the seats that the new owner found - and they reported it. Kinda embarassing for the car dealer, you know, I'm sure. I'm pretty sure 99% that it was a demo car as well...one that was around the lot for awhile. Ouch!

Not a car drug tale, but my dad's buddy found a big, big bag of coke (like pounds of it) floating around somewhere in the Florida Keys while boating about. I understand that wasn't uncommon in the 70's/80's. I was told they just let it be, but you never know.

"Square grouper" like that funded my fathers car obsession in the 80s. What an amazing time that must have been.

My dad was the head of a bank just right before regulations kicked in and saw the guys in line wheeling handcarts full of cash in boxes. Dad called in extra tellers and I think hired valet parking.

I can't speak for the '80's but in 2007 I sold one of these to a China-man with a Mexican passport. About 3 months later he was arrested and they found this hidden in the walls of his home in Mexico City. Turns out he was manufacturing amphetamines out of a pharmaceutical company he established in Mexico. So I guess the car of choice for drug dealers in 00's is a Rolls-Royce.
