Barney Halse is a noted BMW historian and it is a very good review of the UK specification E28 M5.

One I noticed was the information regarding the M88/3 engine. The commentary might give one the impression that this engine was designed specifically for the M5, yet it was actually first utilized in the '84 M635CSi. Another fault, the E28 M5 was available for three years, '86, '87, and '88. I don't recall Hartge ever offering a long range tank for the E28, ALPINA did have one available.

Did anyone notice the plug for the cold start injector was not connected?

I enjoyed the video. How many times did he say "brilliant"? He also made it sound like having ac, leather and a sunroof were unheard of in a sport sedan circa 1986.

Hartge did offer a long range tank for the E28. In fact there was/is one on German ebay.

Not sure why the cold start injector was unplugged.

I think in terms of model years he was only referring to RHD versions which I can't remember but he could be correct.

Saw that Hartge tank an hour ago

The DC92 cars started production in 3/86, and since their company is UK based, I figure it would revolve around the RHD versions. Didn't see a need to mention the M635CSi, either.

Also, I have always wanted to find out what music they use in their videos.

Not really. I figure he wasn't giving exact figures.

2000 RPM with a .81:1 5th gear, a 3.73 rear end and a radius of the tire at 12.43" would give you 49 MPH.

I'd trade all my cars except the E12 for a LHD version of that one. Yum!

As mentioned, Hartge did offer a long range tank.. I saw that on ebay last week and considered it for a moment..

One thing that intrigued me was the electric rear blind.. i've heard about them, but have never seen a pic of one in operation that wasn't a e32/e34 unit.. I want.

I didn't know if Hartge made a long range tank, hence my response. I haven't trolled eBay.de in a while either, but at least I now know another possibility exists.

About the '88 MY, my resources indicate that 6 RHD (DC92) E28M5s were produced between 9/97 - 10/87. Specifically SNs 1679182 - 1679187.

I've seen one that was E28 specific, Duke had one in his M535i. It wasn't something I would want, it was noisy and rather slow, it also didn't appear very robust and would probably be prone to failure if over utilized.

They would still have been '87s, as in Europe, the E34s started for '88.

These dates are wrong. DC92 production began with VIN 1679001 on 3/6/86 and ended with 1679187 on 11/9/87. Also note that VIN 1679187 was specially constructed for Paul Layzell who was the Managing Director of BMW Group UK to replace his former E28 M5, VIN 1679062. VIN 1679186 was built on 9/28/87 when series production was originally scheduled to end.
