I wanted to check the actual height of my car as it looks to have been lowered,imagine my suprise to learn that it was higher than what is stated in the handbook.
Handbook says 1297mm (51.1 inches).I have a magazine with a test of the M535 and that gives the height as 1415mm (55.7 inches).
Have the Germans got it wrong or am I just sad.
Wheels and tyres are 225-40-18 and are very close height wise to the standard offerings.
At 4.6 inches difference, my guess would be that BMW measured from the bottom of the rocker to the roof, rather than from the ground to to the roof. IOW, in BMW's eyes, the height of the car doesn't change based on ride height. They measured the height of the unibody.
The little diagram shows floor to roof.It says all the other models are 1415mm 55.7in,but the column for the M535 gives the dimension as 1297mm 51.1in.
well since the M535i is just another type of E28 it would be a misprint. BMW did not lower the car a couple inches with suspension and a couple more with tires. 30 aspect ratio tyres were not available at that time.

I suspect a typo. It's easy to be 1397mm instead of 1297mm, and that makes more sense, and is only 18mm different from 1415mm.
In fact, checking m535i.org, it is a typo. My book had it at 1397mm.
