Name these brakes....

Post by Armydiver »

I am not sure what brakes these are on my 535is???

The PO said he thought they were off a 540 but he was not sure either as they were on when he bought the car?

Thanks...

Frybrid = Moosehead??

I shall call them "Scarlet" in light of the fact they're a slightly beaten redhead.

Oh, and btw.

That was kinda asking for it in terms of responses, but your answer is indeed in the first post after the original.

I'm feeling the humor, no issue... it's all good. I just wanted to know what brakes I had on my ride.

I would have never seen the white writing so thanks Chris...

To be 100% sure, there will be a BMW part number stamped right on the caliper. If the red paint hasn't covered it up, you can easily reference it.

I can make out the numbers on the caliper and see the 28/302 on the fronts, which peg them as E32 or 540i brakes and see the rears are vented and say 300 on them, so again E32 or 540i (though the rear rotors must be 540i and not E32.)

Well, they look a LOT like my brakes which came off a '95 530 (the fronts).

Good news for you, the pads are identical for 530's and 540's so does it matter?

Here's an illustration of my setup for comparison... I couldn't make out the number on your caliper but I'm sure you can read mine pretty good :

Edit : Pretty sure yours are 540's... those fronts look a bit thicker than mine do.

The only difference is the width of the rotor in front and the rears are solid.
