Transmission mount question - 5 speed swap related

Post by Manny D. »

I have converted my 87 535i to a manual g265 from a lower mileage e12 based 633csi. The e12 based 633csi came with a trans cross-member that supported only one mount, it works, but I would like to use the e28 one which uses 2 mounts.

There are 3 different part numbers that may be a possibility.
1. e12 based 633csi
2. early e28
3. late e28
I'm leaning more towards the later 2.

The cross-member I have pulled from a yard is from a later e28 (Not sure if there is a difference), and the g265 was only available in earlier cars.

My question is, which trans mounts do I purchase?

You need the mounts for a G265, from an 82 eta or an 85 535i. It gets confusing, but it's the one with 10MM angled studs on them, I think the rest are 8MM. Below looks correct as is courtesy of Autohausaz

Transmission Mount; Offset Bolt Type
For models with Getrag 265 5-speed manual transmissions. Please verify appearance of existing mounts prior to ordering, studs are not inline with each other. 1 per car.

Thanks Mike. Logan has informed me that I will need the cross-member from an 85 535. The g260 one I have will not work.

I thought they were transmission specific, but Realoem didn't say so. I wasn't sure enough to say anything though.
