That's just a little more than an 8 hour drive from where I'll be moving in a month... I wish you luck on the sale, but hope you still have it in June when I'll be looking for my next car... That thing is beautiful.
What kind of gas mileage does the car get with the TCD kit? This is definitely a dream car of mine, and as I said, I am interested if it's still for sale in a few months.

It's more of a cold leak but disconnecting the vacuum line and plugging stopped the leak. I was going to change it out in the spring. Right now it flows coolant all the time.muleskinner wrote:What has to be done with the heater valve in order for it not to be leaking? Replacement? Or is there another problem?
Nice looking car.

I thought about that. I have a gauge plumbed in right before the rail and you can shut the car off and it will hold pressure. You can then immediately restart it and there will be the momentary stumble. The car always "fires" right up, it's the afterstart that screwed up. If you don't keep your foot in it the engine will always start and immediately die. When it's cold it's pretty bad, when it's warm it's not that big of a deal. I'm going to try the sensors now and when the touring shows up I'll pull the injectors out and have them checked.kway wrote:Car looks good! Priced to sell too. Have you thought about leaky fuel injectors in regards to the hard starting? I had the same issue on my e30; threw a set of known good spare injectors at it and problem solved.

It's my understanding that there is temp sender for the DME, the thermo-time switch and a dual pin sender for the dash gauge and VDO turbo fan timer module.-
Turbo timer is just a sender on the side of the block, when it reads so much resistance it kicks the fan on. Hell, you can just ground it on a permanent basis and it will always kick on when you turn the vehicle off.
Anyway, car looks sharp... smart move dumping the K27 stuff, I bet it runs totally different!

Way ahead of ya' Hit Man! Well, I also had to replace the caps, diodes and micro relays in the VDO control unit to get the system to work again.Hit Man X wrote: Turbo timer is just a sender on the side of the block, when it reads so much resistance it kicks the fan on. Is anybody ready to take the plunge yet?
It was brought up in another thread that the car needs a Megasquirt system. I wholeheartedly agree and started putting away the extra parts to make the swap. I have a 60-2 wheel and sensor bracket, a good 3 wire idle valve and a few other odds and ends to get someone started. I only kept this car o motronic to "copy" the driving characteristics to help tune my red car with Megasquirt. Turns out, my MS car runs 100x better with a minimal amount of tuning. (Now even better with MS2)

Here OP, let me help you out. It's tough to try looking at a Craigslist ad after it expires.
Good luck. Looks like a nice car.

Up for sale is a euro-only market E23, factory turbocharged BMW. This 745i is Alpinewhite with buffalo hide leather interior. This car was not available in North America! At just over 202,000 miles, the car still runs and drives very well. I have owned the car for almost 4 years and have gone through every major system on the car from HVAC to the turbo itself. Options include; power windows, central power locking, sunroof, automatic air conditioning, heated power leather seats, burl walnut interior wood trim, rear sunshade, on board computer and cruise control. If you don't know the history of this car, I invite you read about them on the following sites:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_7_Series_%28E23%29
http://bmwturbos.scottiesharpe.com/default.asp
Alright, here's a quick list of the repairs, restorations and modifications done over the years:
1. New Bilstein heavy duty shocks
2. New Ate front and rear pads and rotors
3. New radiator
4. New hoses
5. New battery
6. New heater blower motor
7. Rebuilt driveshaft, new guibo and center support bearing
8. Nardi wood steering wheel
9. Rebuilt heater and air conditioning controls. The A/C on this car is fully functional.
10. 3.73 limited slip differential
11. 5 speed manual swap using stronger Getrag 265 transmission
12. New aftermarket turbo system built by TCD (Turbo Charging Dynamics). Website here: http://www.turbochargingdynamics.com/
I have 2 BMWs with this turbo system and they are a great, reliable upgrade to the older 80's technology of the original k27 that came equipped on the 745i. The specifications of the new turbo system are as follows;
-TO4e 60 trim turbo
-TCD cast log style exhaust manifold
-TCD turbo downpipe
-Tial 38mm wastegate
-Custom 3" exhaust with Magnaflow resonator and dual 2.5" outlet muffler.
Now for some of the bad stuff that is typical of many 27 year old cars with 200,000 miles. This awesome Bimmer is about 95% operational. Everything is in good working order except;
The car has been repainted and shows it. There are chips here and there, but still looks good.
The passenger lower heated seat cushion does not heat up
The turn signals do not cancel. This is more of a design flaw with the Nardi wheel adapter. The switch works just fine with a factory bmw wheel.
The rear seat air vents are inop. The vacuum servo that actuates the flap is leaking and has been capped off.
The heater valve, also vacuum operated, drips coolant if allowed to "shut off," so that is also capped off. There are no coolant leaks at the moment.
The windshield is cracked.
The passenger grill is missing the aluminum trim.
Last, but not least, I've been battling a hard start issue with the car. It will start everytime, you just have to keep your foot on the pedal until the engine catches and runs. I have done extensive diagnostics to fix the problem. Once the car starts and runs, which is usually just a slight stumble for a split second with your foot on the throttle, it runs completely fine. It does not die going down the road or at stop lights. This is actually an "afterstart" issue and has nothing to do with the actual "firing" of the engine. The engine will pull 19" of vacuum at idle warm. The compression is good, I have even tried another known good DME. I currently have the two engine position sensors on order, so I am still actively pursuing a fix. I will be glad to discuss the details of the starting issue with any interested buyer.
Please note that current wheels on the car have already been sold and do not come with the car.
This car is ready for a test drive any time! Feel free to give me a call.

Replacing the engine position and reference sensors today. I'm currently DD'ing the car, but I am expecting the fiancee's new e46 touring to arrive any day now. Once that happens, I'm going to pull the injectors and have them cleaned and flow checked. I'd really like to sort this problem out for my own personal satisfaction. Remember folks, I'm continuing to put money in the car, but the price will still be the same! I will draw the line at the installment and tuning of a MS system though, should it come to that before finding a new home.thrty8street wrote:Did you ever fix the starting issue?

I really want this car. But the wife does not approve and the last thing I need is another car that needs a garage space. I've been watching the thread since you listed it and GLWS.
P.S. Next time I'm in Omaha (usually once a year) I'll have to hit you NE folks up for a few brewskis. Still uncertain when the trip this year is going to be.
