Unknowns and IP leak

Post by ralph524 »

These are pics of things that I don't know about under my hood. If anyone knows what these things are, I'd love to know. Thanks in advance!

This is a vacuum line on my IP that is connected to nothing.

This is an unknown unattached electrical connector that is sitting on top of my IP.

Image

This is a damaged and corroded connector between the intake manifold and the valve cover. not sure what it does or how to repair it.

Image

Not sure what this switch should do, though I assume that it has something to do with the fueling at idle. My throttle cable is adjusted such that the switch is not depressed at idle, and pressing the switch by had seems not to affect idle.

Image

Finally, my injection pump is leaking a steady drip onto the bracket from the driver's side. It appears to be leaking from a cap that is attached to the pump by 2 T30 torx bolts, under which there is a spring with metal washers on each side. I took this cap off and replaced the o-ring, but the pump still leaks the same way. The focused area of the photo on the bottom shows the cap and where the leak emerges. Is there a seal that typically drips from this area?

Thanks so much folks! All help is appreciated as I'm trying to get this heap running well.

#1 is an air intake filter for some aspect of the EGR system. It may look like it is missing a piece but that is just how it is. Your passenger side wheel well should have a label that lists all of the components of the EGR setup.

#2 is the wire that should plug into the BOV on the bottom of your intake manifold. When the pressure in the manifold gets too high, the valve opens and triggers a switch. That connector lights the oil warning light on your dash temporarily until the manifold pressure subsides and the valve shuts. The diesel heater on the filter also uses a connector like that.

#3 Is what is left of the connector on your #4 injector... Your connector has nothing left to it! the injector connector and its receiving connector on the wire harness are supposed to mount through the bracket in the background of your photo (right next to the tach sensor plug). The injector sensor sends a signal to the ECU for optimizing engine timing. My car is significantly louder w/o that sensor plugged in. Your sensor's wires look pretty chewed up as well, may be time to replace #4...

#4 I'm actually not sure myself... I believe it is also part of the EGR system.

#5 I'm not sure. My pump was rebuilt shortly before I bought my TD. Google "Bosch VE" for some exploded views, they might point you in the right direction. The Cummins forums have lots of DIY rebuild threads as well that may prove useful.

Putting seals in the pump is the easy part. Getting the pump off the car is a little more difficult.

Google is your friend there are a couple of really pictorials on the web for sealing the pump.
I should like to my write up but I did a complete tear down and that was a total waste of time.
