I'm curious because it seems like an extremely good hiding spot to hide cash, cards, small items,, etc.

I do not as of the present... but when we fixed my tranny problems (
http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?t=76222 ) we found some junk under the center console...
BTW... Now all the criminals that browse myE28.com will look under the ashtray first thing upon braking into your car.

The e28 is a good drug running car if you dont get screwed over by the K-9 unit, under the back seat, behind the cluster, under that center vent, steering column panel etc....my whole car has no interior so i no has any hiding spots....not like i need to hide anything though.

Ha, I always thought that, and you could make a little trap door to under the backseat.
I expected there to be a ... after "not like i need to hide anything though."

Yeah, it's really great to hide stuff in a spot where thieves will look AFTER they remove the ashtray, as I use it for spare change.

It's a decent hiding spot, but the better one is under the shift boot :-)

I found five toy cars down in the e-brake console that the whiskers let by.

Back of the instrument binnacle wouldn't be a bad spot to tape a spare key - one little screwdriver and lost keys wouldn't keep you from getting home.

I don't keep anything under it because it might short out the dual lighter socket panel I installed in the ashtray.
