Exhaust options for E28 M5 w/ Euro Headers

Post by M5 Jed »

Hi all, Merry Christmas!!!

I would like to get some ideas/options for my exhaust set up, I can't seem to make up my mind. There are a few options available for our cars, and it is such a pricey upgrade, I really want to be happy with the purchase. So with that said, this is what I'm dealing with...

Current exhaust set up - OEM Stock (to replace with new OEM is about $1,028) Quiet and boring - ho hum.

I plan to install Euro Headers (currently getting Jet Hot ceramic coating)

BTW, I have the connecting pipes of the Euro Headers, so I can also use them to splice what ever new exhaust I buy so it will bolt right up to the Euro headers.

I really want to get the VSR Hi Flow Center section (they can customize this mid section to bolt right up to the euro headers) $900. If I do this, I will just need to buy the muffler. The Supersprint muffler comes to mind at $600 from Beast Power Motorsports.com
see www.vsr1.com

Full Supersprint system - around $1,100 I think

Some Aussie ebay seller w/ unknown testimonials on system - $900 + $150 shipping to USA

Stebro System on ebay - $1,250

Ireland Engineering full system - $500

BavAuto Triflow System - $1,028

What to do! What to do!
Please chime in guys, any commentary or observations will be helpful.
Thanks!

Purchased Stebro on Ebay with an offer of $950.00 plus $75.00 shipping. Excellent fit to the VSR cat system and
the sound is anything but boring. You may wish to talk with
Mario as at one time he was considering fabrication of a
catback system.

The Ireland System is for the 535.

The Austrailian system will require a modification to mount to a US car, and who knows what it is, really?

I have a Stebro on my 535 and am very happy with it. I dealt directly with Dan and even with my sad little 12v motor, it's intoxicating. The install went pretty smooth, though I'm convinced that all aftermarket exhaust fabricators used severely bent or wrecked cars to do their fitment on. Just have a big prybar ready for any necessary adjustments. That goes for any of them.

I think the Billy Boat is too boomy and it really drones a lot inside the car. Of course, if you get a used one, then it's a great piece of kit. I just don't think it's worth the new price.

The Supersprint sounds great.

I too have the stebro exhaust system with the VSR cats. I totally agree with polywogg and kohler. If you got with the stebro buy at your own risk as Dan still owes me $600.00US and isn't returning my calls or emails. I feel like driving up to Ontario and rasing some hell but i'm trying to be nice and act like an adult. Oh sorry for the rant. the exhaust is great. I'm totally biased with the VSR cats, they're of great quality. Dealing with Mario was/is the complete opposite than dealing with Dan. Mario just completed my m5(he now has my track m5) build which included the euro header install, e34 m5 cams, all motor, tranny and diff maint. I also got the Miller MAF upgrade too. I'm very happy with the end result. If you can contact Dan or buy with a cc i say get the stebro.

I have a brand new Supersprint Catback Exhaust for sale, that will work on the M5. (Shameless self plug here). But seriously, the SS exhaust is a top notch choice for the M5 (whether you purchase mine or not).

Cheers,

Chuck
