Stick with the M-Tech or Change it out for something else?

Hi everybody, while I really like the stock m-tech steering wheel on my M5, I'm contemplating changing it out for a wood and leather momo or nardi or the like.

Would love to get your opinion on what I should do...If you've made the swap, what did you go with? (feel free to post pics of what you ended up with).

I wouldn't swap out a M-Tech 1 for a M-tech 2, i think the M-tech 1 looks much better. I changed the M-tech 1 in my M6 out for a deep dish 320mm OMP Corsica with suede. Its smaller in diameter, thicker on the grip, and mounted much closer to the driver, all pros in my book.

My vote is with the M-Tech 1 as well. It is a nice wheel and fits the look of the car. I like the M-Tech 2 fine but I think you will find that it obscures the top part of the instrument cluster.

Personally, I think a wood and leather Momo or Nardi wheel would look just hideous and completely out of place in these cars, but that's just my opinion. Its your car - you should do what pleases you

M Tech 1 in the biggie e24/e28 size is best to me. Lots of M Tech 1's on ebay etc are the smaller diameter e30 variety which is like the M Tech II I think. Cuts off too much of the cluster. I think the basic sport wheel with full leather wrapping looks right in the e28 to me over the newer wheels. If you want to sell your M Tech 1 I'm sure there'd be some takers. The e28 size is harder to come by than the e30 size.

Now the early airbag wheels, those are hideous. That's why I put an M Tech I in my e24.

+1, simply because we didn't get the beautiful wood trim option that both the E12 and E34 had. One of the few things I dislike about the E28, along with the direction the hood opens in. Makes no sense why they would stop two popular styling trends for the 2nd gen 5er and revert back to them for the 3rd gen.

I'm swapping out my M-Tech 1 for a 350mm three spoke Momo wheel. A little bit smaller, and it's big and chunky. My brother put one in his M535i and I liked it a lot in there. I was lucky enough to see one in the pick n pull this past weekend, picked it up for $15. After driving the M535i the M-Tech 1 feels like a bus wheel.

Upgrade to the 535i sport wheel. It has a much better feel on the spokes.

Have to agree that the e28 sport wheel feels the best with the way the spokes are placed and tilted. M Tech looks better though.
