Check out my new watch - it's an Ollech & Weiss Fliegerchronograph hand made in Switzerland by Mr. Ollech himself , limited to 500 made - I'm infatuated!

You really want a pic of the Casio I got from Walmart a couple of years ago? I'm sure production on mine was limited to as many as they could sell. ;)

I do want to see it - for years I wore my Dad's cheap union watch that probably cost $3 - the thing is it was a solid gold colour and everyone would ooh and ah when they saw it.

Every year around my birthday I promise myself I'm going to buy a nice watch, and then I decide to spend it on something practical like tools, cars, home repairs, vacations, etc. I just can't do it, and to this day I don't wear a watch. I'm very curious how many e28 guys spend real money on watches.

I love the idea of a quality timepiece, but there's always an interesting car out there for the same price that I would actually USE.

Here you have a picture of my fine collectable timepiece. On Ebay a fine instrument such as this would likely bring at least 29 cents.

I like to know what time it is.

I really miss my old IronMan "Flix" watch, though, since I do so much of my running at night.

I have a decent-looking Citizen I got as a high school graduation gift 11 years ago that serves as the "nice" watch. I have no desire to wear a multi-thousand-dollar piece of metal on my arm when I can drive one around instead.

Wait... what? Vacations are "practical" now?

That is a nice watch you have there rocker and it's funny you should bring this topic up right now to me. I was only just looking at buying a watch a couple of weeks ago. That was until I contacted AC Schnitzer in Germany and found out the cost of it! I'm still seriously considering another model that is quartz movement instead of the Swiss auto-winding by hairspring type and hence more reasonably priced. Little point in me showing you my current watches. They are nothing special. I am wearing right now a Seiko SQ100 quartz as my everyday analogue watch. My "dress watch" if you will is a Breil Chrono OS20 and my digital watch for sports and when I need an alarm and/or stopwatch is a Casio G-Shock 1823-W731H which I needed for sailing because it has two countdown timers for the start sequences.

In my fantasy world, money no object, this is my perfect ideal watch.

That one is a little pricy though. I'm still marinating on the idea of this one though. Much, much cheaper. I have to see if I can get over the phosphorescent green face is all. Not easy.

If they made that with a conventional white or black face like the top one, I wouldn't be able to give them money fast enough!!

Actually no, that isn't a consideration at all. Honestly it isn't. I know that's hard to believe, but it really isn't. I just stumbled across the AC Schnitzer watches from an ad that caught my eye in a Top Gear UK magazine I was reading. I really liked the look of the watch designs purely for their aesthetic appeal as watches, not for the name printed on them.

If I was swayed by names and marketing BS I would be after a Rolex Submariner or an Omega Speedmaster anyway. AC Schnitzer wouldn't be a good fit for me anyway. I have nothing on my cars that comes from AC Schnitzer. A ///Motorsport or ALPINA branded watch would be more appropriate in my case if anything.

For the record, that Porsche watch is butt ugly and I wouldn't give them €7.80 for it much less €78,000!!

That nice AC Schnitzer watch with the black face is "over" ~€1,000 + tax in Europe, while the green faced quartz movement one is more like €250 landed here in Australia. I can justify the cheaper one to myself if I can get over the green face. I can't justify €1,000 for a watch, no matter how much I like the look of it. Period.

I could never see the point in spending thousands or even hundreds of dollars on a watch. I can appreciate a fine watch as much as the next guy, and if you like that sort of thing, more power to you, but my ego doesn't require expensive little trinkets that try to impress.

Here's my Timex that's done everything I need of it for the last three years. I have every confidence it will continue to do so for a long time to come.

And when it fails to deliver, I'll spend another $50 or so to get me by for the next decade. :D

My last one I accidentally left on the diving board of a bumper of my 83 and drove on the interstate. So somewhere some $250 watch is rotting on the side of the road.

I bought a Citizen Eco-Drive Titanium thingy a long time ago, probably about 8-10 years. It's still ticking and hasn't ever "lost" the time. I guess the solar panel really does work. I have been so pleased with it I haven't needed to go out and find a better one.

I have a Tag Heuer stainless steel diver's watch, professional grade rated for 200 meters. It was a gift and I've had it for about 14 years. It's been serviced once -- new crown, case resealed, new battery, cleaned, etc.

Not that I am active now really other than going to the gym or changing diapers, but there was a time when the watch saw a lot of time in the water and the fact that the band expands for a wet suit is handy. Plus it is basically indesctructible and the styling is timeless.

My wife has offered to buy a Rolex for me for one of our past or future anniversaries, but generally I've declined due to the fact that I wear the Tag everyday and all the time, and I prefer the fact that it is actually a heavier watch than the typical oyster date or datejust. The Rolex subs are beautiful, but they are too heavy and and a bit too flashy for my taste, unless you regularly dive. If I quit my day job maybe, but right now, it would be money better invested.

Daily wear: Casio El-Cheapo model ($20.00) and I don't worry about it.

Special service wear: Doxa Sub600T
Deep sea capable to 600 meters. That way I can see what time it is before my head implodes. Sold my Rolex stainless/gold Submariner and Air King back in 2005 to pay for my wife's engagement ring. I think I've gotten past that. I think.

I have an early 90's Breitling Jupiter Pilot with a stainless steel band. I service it every 2 years and dive with it as well.
