California to reduce carbon emissions by banning black cars

Post by pdx 528e »

I hope this isn't a repost.

California wants to ban black cars. This doesn't surprise me too much but I think its a harbinger of things to come: "Sir, is this paint job California legal?"

Leave it to Kal-ee-fornia. I'm sure the Governator will be all over this. I suppose an argument could be made for anything dark affecting this issue. I can see the public relations person patiently explaining this Alice-in-Wonderland position.

(Would they ban out-of-state vehicle sales just because of *gasp* color??)

Next they will ban black semi trailer trucks, black delivery trucks (UPS might be in trouble, they are dark brown!), black handguns, black tires, black suits, black shoes...

United States Naval uniforms are also available in dark blue, so forget those.

SWAT teams will have to go pastel - probably something in mauve or beige, with a hint of tangerine. This would include their MP5's and M-16's. Won't they look snazzy up against MS-13.

Forget that dark baseball cap.. New York Yankee fans will be out in the cold.

Frankly, the fact that the CARB has time and money to do this is proof positive that they have way too much time on their hands and way too much government money to spend on asinine solutions to a non-existent problem.

I'm hoping this is just an April Fools Prank, but nothing those apparatchiks in The Golden State come up with would surprise me.

This was mentioned in another thread, but I think it deserved a thread of it's own, so good on ya.

I was just thinking about this yesterday and whether or not they'd try to make this retroactive?

What about all those Town Car and limousine folks? They'd have to go with something other than black. President's Motorcade? He'd have to have a California-specific one.

Because California people voted each and every dipshit in thier state government into office.

Good job voting independent. You're such a free thinking individual. Image

You might as well not vote if you're going to vote for the candidate with absolutely no chance of winning.

I don't totally agree with that.
I think we are in need of a third party, or really a second party,
because the two we have now are pretty much the same if you remove a couple of the moral planks,
and voting strength is the only civil way to get it.
I agree with you at the top positions. The grassroots / local level is the beginning place and then work up.
The feds would be hard pressed to force anything down our throats if rejected at the state levels,
and then county, etc., all the way down to our individual homes.
They don't force us to take the stimulus checks.

I dont vote, none of it affects me regardless, plus one vote doesnt matter, the election is proof of that. Nobody cares about others views, i just want free healthcare and no smog checks.

The problem is there are millions of people that think like you in that regard. Not that it's really a problem, though.

oh i know its the mindset that one vote doesnt change, but truly ONE vote doesnt change it.
Now people thinking that their vote combined with others is a different story, but in absolute terms, my vote wouldnt have mattered at all.

I think we should all be able to vote as many times as we want to as long as we don't cast a vote for the same person twice.

How about an elected candidate from each party share the office and if they can't agree on something it just doesn't get done.

The problem is people vote on their "beliefs" like dumb issues like abortion, or the "war on drugs" whereas people need to start thinking for everyone and start thinking about REAL issues like healthcare, the homeless, and raising wages.
I dont vote because the shit is broken.

Even the EU'ers wouldn't agree to this. This is nonsense.

Look, if you don't vote - you have no place to complain about anything. At least those who are ignorant and vote anyway are part of the larger picture. And in Chicago, that's early and often!

20 million people who think their vote doesn't mean anything and then don't vote is a travesty. The turnout in 2008 wasn't anything to write home about, trust me. We don't need a third party - we just need people to understand the issues in depth and work to advance the policy positions they support.

Besides, one of the downsides to campaign finance reform is that political parties are obsolete - so a third party means nothing in either the short or the long run. Obama, for all his Democrat posturing, originally ran for office (and won) as a "New Party" socialist in Chicago.

Free healthcare. Theres a good issue.

Why the fuck should I pay for anyone elses healthcare? I pay for my own, and I think thats quite enough. Just like anything else in this world, you can have it if you work for it.

What if they work at McDonalds and make 8 dollars an hour and they are on the sidewalk and a turbo 528e driver loses control and plows into the poor guy and cuts out. How does the food bitch pay for thousands of dollars in medical fees when they just have enough to pay rent?

I really don't want to wade into politics here, and frankly I don't really care what you think, but here's a thought for you: social justice is a moot point without a basic respect for human life.

I completely understand many may not agree with me, and I have neither the desire nor intention of debating it here, but to call abortion a "dumb" issue simply proclaims your own ignorance. Do yourself and the rest of us a favor and stick to e to i conversions and things of that ilk.

I vote that all new Black cars in California should be sold without A/C as an option. Wouldn't that just fix the problem?

Why ban the paint color when you can ban the "real" issue. So if I want a black car, I get no A/C, simple.

What if I bought a white car and chose to leave my car idling each night as I slept (putting aside the fact that this provides an opportunity for theft)? The "carbon footprint" of running the A/C more in a black car stems from the additional gasoline burned. Isn't this enough incentive to help people make good choices about the use of this fuel? And if the extra cost of fuel used due to the impact that paint color has on A/C effectiveness isn't big enough to dissuade drivers, then is it really enough of a difference to be a problem that we have to legislate? jm2cw :)

Next thing I know, they won't let me keep my headlights at all times because the extra load on the alternator increases my fuel consumption.

What if someone robs the McDonalds they work at and they end up getting shot? What if they break thier ankle getting off of the bus to go to work?

Then I guess they're going to have to go to the hospital and recieve emergency treatment. I guess if they could barely afford rent in the first place they should either get a smaller apartment or find a fucking room mate. Shit happens, deal with it like everybody else.

Did you realize that a one bedroom apartment is like 900 a month?

If you make minimum wage and live by yourself, there goes every penny you earned just to go home and sleep to work the next day.

Are you still wasting money by moving out and thinking you are "independent"? I heard chicks dig that

I agree that I think this has got to be some sort of early April Fool's Day joke, but assuming it isn't, the problem isn't the colour (spelt correctly for once) (spelt is correctly spelt as well BTW, it isn't spelled), the problem is with modern cars and their ridiculously angled screens that reveal enormous black dashboard areas which are fully open to sunlight exposure from above. The dashboards are generally black or at least dark coloured regardless of what colour paint the car has on it.

What they fail to realise is that the car designs have become this way due to government legislation making demands of the makers in regard to fuel consumption and pedestrain safety. There's a cost for every compromise you make. Uglifying car designs makes them nice and soft and fluffy for rolling over when they mow you down as a pedestrian, but they also make for hotter cars inside, and then they have to install bigger and more powerful A/C systems that have to be run longer to counter that. QED.

It's all just tail chasing. They're legislating to fix the problems created by previous legislation. If we wait long enough, I'm sure E28s will come around to being the ideal perfect car again and people will be clamouring for that upright stance and sensible 3 box design  They'll come to realise that windscreens stretching from the front bumper to the middle of the roof laid at an angle of 10° and headlights that look like they've been installed with the car mounted vertically on its rear bumper and then been melted with a blow torch until they run back down the front fenders, weren't such a fantastic idea afterall! ;)

Are you willing to live in a state with a lower cost of living? There are studio apartments for less than $600 in Portland. I'm sure its much less in the 'burbs. You could also rent an extra room out of a house for cheap as well.

Yeah thats no problem.

I just get offended when ignorant people like turbodan think ANYONE can just leave, lots of people (whom i wont name) laugh (at him) every time he brings that up. Whats even funnier is that when people think its ok to live at home as long as you are going to a community college or something which gives NO credibility to any situation due to its nature.
It just goes to show that he thinks that everything that you have to show for yourself is materialistic, and success is defined by moving out (like its a big accomplishment )

Food per month turbodan (200)
Room rent per month turbodan (600)
Gas per month turbodan: (80) (yeah right)
bills per month turbodan: (200)

total turbodan 1080

If you work while going to school, you cant work 40 hours per week as the workload is too much so...say you work 30 hours per week....and 4 weeks per month.

960 per month, then you take taxes out and you are down to about 800 maybe.

Hes an ignorant schmuck  You lose out every month, so unless you have someone to help you, you are pretty much SOL.

Get a roommate biatch. Bam, 450 a month.

I'm wasting money on a fixed rate mortgage payments these days. I collect monthly rent from my roommate and my "chick" pays for utility bills, etc. Frees up enough extra money for fun stuff.

In above scenario person would need to get a second job. Once they finish school should have enough education to get a better paying job.
