I presently use the BMW ETK Win95 cd on a XP home version computer.
I tried to install this on a XP pro SP3 computer and no go. Has anyone tried to purchase and ETK that covers the E28 models and works with XP Pro or Vista?
Thanks
Dale

I'm running the older ETK (dated 2002: 95/98/2000/NT/XP) on my XPSP3 PC without problems; sure it's a bit clunky, but that's to be expected. I've got 3GB ram on mine with a Core2Duo 2.13Ghz. and don't have any issues. It could be some other issue (i.e. security software, corrupted disk, etc.).
We had an download thread for this version sometime ago, in case my version is newer than yours. You're welcome to it.

Problem using the E24 Repair CD
To get the BMW E24 Repair CD-ROM to work on a system with larger than 512MB RAM:
1. click Start/RUN, type in "msconfig"
2. click the "Boot.ini" tab
3. select the "Advanced Options" button
4 click to enable "MAXMEM" (puts a check in the box) and set to a number less than 1024. I was able to get it to work with my system set at 640Mb so maybe 512 isn't the limit.
5. Reboot the computer
After startup you'll get a message saying you were playing with the configuration - agree to this and don't reboot.
Program runs fine. After use, go through the above steps and uncheck the "MAXMEM" box, reboot and you are back to normal.
Alternatively...
There is a boot.ini file in your C:\
If you open it (with a text editor like Notepad) you see a line under [operating systems] that looks like this:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
Copy that line and paste it under itself (note that if you mess up the boot.ini file you will not be able to boot Windows anymore). Change the text in quotes to read "XP for FoxPro" for example.
Add a /maxmem=xxx option to the end of the line after /fastdetect and all others. xxx stands for the amount of memory you want to have. As said, you will have to experiment. 512 should be a good value to start with.
When you reboot your computer then you should see a boot menu with two options: XP Professional with maximum memory and the new one you created for FoxPro with limited memory.
Yes, there appears to be two separate problems when on newer
machines. The first is that the program's DLLs will return "not
enough memory" error messages if the machine has more than 512 MB of
RAM. I have been advise that too much memory for the older DLLs will
cause this error. Too much = Not enough. The second problem is that
you have to have a separate installation of Acrobat 5 to 5.1 and for
some reason, you can get away with Acrobat 6 on some machines. With
two versions of Acrobat installed you just start the older version of
Acrobat before starting the Mobile traditions Manual and you have
less than 512MB Ram the program will function correctly. On my old XP
machine you could re-start the computer with a Bat file that limited
the RAM, but on my new Vista machine I have not found a way to get it
to work. As of this date I have my old machine available for the CD,
but since I broke down and bought a paper factory manual, I don't use
the CD much anymore. BTW all of the specification files are in PDF
format and can be copied to your hard drive for use without the CD.
