removing power seats (need electricity) or manual override

Post by zordon »

the car is at the p and p so therefore, no power. I have to move the seat forward to get the bolts out. they will not let me in the pick and pull with a battery, but i have a 12 v cordless drill. would it have enough juice to move the seat? i would wire the drill battery to the right connectors with some alligator clips.
I know a booster pack would definitely work but those cost money and i don't have enough of that.

Bring the drill in, along with a 1/4" socket adapter and a 6" socket extension plus tool holder. Bolt that all up in the drill with a square bit or a torx bit (depends on the car). What you're going to do is use the drill to spin the motor that drives the seat rails backwards and forwards. It's a barrel shape socket on the front of a motor accessible from the front of the seats. It's on the inboard side on the driver's side and outboard on the passenger side.

that did not work

i went to the yard armed with drill, i was excited because it was 12.99 seat day but - no success.
the motors are mounted in such a way that there is no access to the front of them with a drill/socket/ext/etc. i even tried using the battery power to jumper the switches but no luck there either.
do i have to find a way to remove the motors to use this manual override???

What did you try using? Was it just a weak battery or did you not get the connections right?

what you want to do is to strip back the insulation on the 2 biggest wires going into the seat's harness connector. The red one is the hot, the brown is ground. Jumper the power and the switches should work with the plug connected.

The drill battery has plenty of power, I used a tired one with no problems one time to pull some 6er seats. Listen to what "a" has to say, it works.
