California car--no rust
Location: Northern California
I'm selling because I've bought a 2000 540i and it's time for this car to find a new home. It is very peppy and fun to drive. It is a blast on twisty roads. With the stick it really moves and pulls hard, especially from 3-4.5K rpm. This car has been my only car since I bought it, and it is very reliable. Average MPG is 23-24 (about 21 in city, 25 on highway). I averaged about 26-27 MPG when I drove it cross country a few years ago. I've spared no expense to keep this car well maintained and running well as a daily driver. Serviced at a local independent BMW shop.
I've tried to keep this car as stock as possible
replaced in the last year:

battery
new antenna mast/motor
AC blows ice cold (R-12 coolant, the good stuff!)
Alpine CD (sounds great)
power antenna works!
sunroof
all electrical works
full sized spare and original wheel
Interior 8/10. No tears in seats but "wrinkles" exist, a few recent minor cracks in dash, original floor matts relatively good. A small hole in the rear right door vinyl, but it's been covered nicely (see photo). Torn strap on center rear arm cushion.
Exterior 8/10. I polish this car with random orbit buffer once a year and keep it waxed. The black paint looks deep and wet and is mirror-like. Just beautiful. Take a look at the photos. There are rock chips on hood and a few small minor blemishes that can be seen at three feet away. Window molding has turned brown. The car is a real head turner and does not look twenty years old.
Brakes will probably need to be replaced in about 10K. Two years ago I had the oxygen sensor cable disconnected from the dash, since it made that "ticking" sound common to these cars. Soon after that, the cable started vibrating occasionally with the engine, creating a periodic "buzz." It doesn't bug me, but this could be fixed by removing the cable.
Everything works on the car. Nothing needs attention.
