The Tiger is about ready for the drive to CA.

Here is a picture of the custom carburetor that Paul Burke made for me. The main body is a 600 CFM, double pumper with custom made metering plates for tuneability. Notice the jets that he installed in the barrels, cool stuff. Also see that there are idle mixture adjustment screws on all four barrels. It does indeed idle on all four and the throttle response is amazing. No vacuum secondaries either, manual linkage. The car runs like a dream too. It still is just a 260 but is fun. Paul an I have a plan for a larger engine in the next couple of years.

Here is a pic of the cars stance with the new rear springs. With the proper shackles installed (1.5" shorter than the hack ones that were installed) the rear sits a bit lower. The new springs have solved the tire scrub problem and the car can easily do a burn-out with no wheel hop. The 3.07 LSD is a dream too. Hardtop will do wonders for road noise and comfort.

All thats left is to finish installing the cruise control and other minor maintenance tasks and it will be ready to hit the road on the 25th.

Wow that is one cramped engine bay. How do you get to the rear spark plugs?

Anyway, cool ride dude. What day are you coming out to Big Bear?

I really want to hate on this just to be a contrarian and live up to my reputation as a generally arrogant prick, but I can't. And I get sick of you sucking off Paul B. all the time, but his work always looks perfect, so I can't say anything bad about that. I guess I'm stuck with ...

Damn, that's nice. And you've really improved it since you got it.

I'm in lab at 2:30 a.m. and in a foul mood, and I really want something to bitch about, so I guess I have to go read some other thread.

Sweet, Duke! I love the way that you get really passionate about the car of the day and go all out to make it the thing of your vision. I only wish I had the discipline (and money) to do the same. Plus, I have a really soft spot for the 260. I would truly love to make that drive to CA with you (or back with the trophies). :)

4 corner idle is pretty nice. Can be tricky to tune, I had a Holley street dominator on my 442. The secondary linkage ran through the center of the main body, it was freaking huge! It really helped on 455 cu in. "poor breathing" olds engine. The car would still run 12's though. Ahhhh, memories!

Thanks guys....Tammer too ;) ...!

The spark plugs can all be remove in the engine bay except for #8. There is a plugged hole in the firewall on the drivers side to get that one. There is another hole to get to the rear valve cover bolt too.

Yea, Paul is the man. Wait to you see the engine he builds and that will be run with a complete Paul B built carb.

The engine compartment needs lots of work. That will be done once the engine is out sometime in the future. There is only so much that can be done with that lump in there. I really do not expect any awards from this show. All of the pristine $50K+++ restored Tigers from California will be in attendance.

With all of the work I did to the cooling system, the temp does not get over 180

I will be rolling into Big Bear around 1200 on the 26th. (crossing my fingers)

Pictures of my "redneck" A/C to follow.

haha @ the 8th spark plug...

I have to say, I REALLY respect the fact that you actually drive it. Too many people buy collectables for their garage, and its awesome that you use it for what it was intended.

question for you: You said that now you can do a burnout with no wheelhop. What was the weak point in the system that caused it? because my car hops (i know, different worlds, but looking for any info I can) and i'd like to stop it.

The OEM soft seven leaf springs. Sunbeam tried to fix the problem with a panhard rod and traction bars. I removed the bars and rod. The springs I installed have four thick leafs and a 5th half leaf that is on the top front half of the spring. Tigers with higher HP engine do get into some wheel hop problem even with these springs. They have been making a "CalTrac" type bar that works well on the Tiger.

Here is a pic of the actual CalTrac bar -

Of course, none of this will work on the E28's independent rear suspension.

hmm. I was considering a traction bar (or was it a torsion bar) like on the old muscle cars. I know they are for live axle, but I imagine they would work for IRS too. Just have to weld a mount forward, try to use one or two of the stock bolt holes, and get a bar to go inbetween. Even if it is IRS the source of wheel hop should be the same: diff jumping around due to excessive traction in the back (I have large tires). Does this sound reasonable?

If an only if you have completely gone through your rear suspension.

Items to include -
Stiffer springs
Koni shocks
Poly filled diff mount and sub-frame bushings
New dog bones
Etc...etc.

Then start looking at odd ball fixes.

Cruise control is now installed in the car. Has been tested and is fully operational. A very clean and totally reversible installation too. Looking forward to chilling at 78 mph...getting my cruise on :alright:

Damn, its been a long time since I've noticed an aftermarket cruise kit. I've installed a number of them but its been years.

The Tiger is shaping up quite nicely Duke! I hope the drive both ways is uneventful, you have a good time at the show and bring home some nice hardware.
