Can't stop working on my car
How to stop working on my car? I literally mean it. My hands are itchy all the time to do something on my 5er. Every weekend I am taking it in to my garage that I am renting on the side of the town and always! find something to replace or making notes on my car’s to do list. I think I have some king of fever, BMW nuts and bolts fever I should say. Here is most recent example of it. A couple of weeks ago I went to local salvage yard to look for some relay and minor staff for my e32, it is supposed to be very quick look around for small parts with following pocketing and walking away from front gates like I didn’t find anything face. So here I am walking between cars looking for that relay and trim pieces when all of the sadden my attention was cut by later version of e30 in fairly good condition. After short examination of car I realize that it contains many parts than can be used on my super E. Engine compartment was intact in decent condition, nothing was missing. Long story short, three hours later I was dragging cylinder head assembly with gear, cam, springs, valves, intake manifold, TB and injectors to security gate for purchase. Why I couldn’t just walk away from that e30 carcass, get the staff I need and be on my way home? Now I am building unplanned “i” engine, that I was building in my thoughts for some time now and ideas about turbo that were hidden in the back of my head crawl closer and closer. Maybe I need some treatment?

Ah, more choice words from one of our upstanding board denizens.Bimmerguy2002 wrote:If you were a REAL man, you would have found a way to get all that stuff out of the yard for free. Bring a big jacket, not like id know but just sayin....
This is why folks shouldn't buy used parts from you -- stolen merchandise.

you cant take a joke can you? Tell me how you can steal an intake manifold and ill bow down to you.
Id like to see how someone can get a sway bar or cylinder head out without being detected.
Besides even the topic creator admits to stealing, however little things in your pockets dont even matter, EVERYONE would do it, you arent going to pay 45 dollars for a cigarette lighter are you? I didnt think so.
Even taking a bolt is theft, so everyone that goes to the yard is guilty of theft then. If you say you wouldnt take a bolt and just put it in your pocket you are truly a moron.

You're talking out of both sides of your mouth by saying it was a joke AND saying you steal things. How do you reconcile the two?Bimmerguy2002 wrote:you cant take a joke can you? Tell me how you can steal an intake manifold and ill bow down to you.

Yes, an intake manifold can be stolen. Yes, a head can be stolen. I've known of such instances and while it takes some effort, it's certainly possible. Sorry, but I don't care to explain it to you and enable your endeavors.
I'm a moron for not stealing? Think of it what you will, but I show the checkout folks everything I'm taking out of the yard. No, I don't itemize and say "... and this bolt, and this nut, and this washer, and this pin, and this nut...," but I do say "... and all of these in this box." I usually don't get charged anything for them. Not getting charged for something is getting it free, but that's not the same as stealing it and getting it for free.

Care to explain how you can stuff a b35 cylinder head in your pants in the summer with no jacket and walk out? I will seriously give you 1000 dollars if you can get away with it.
Are you going to say you walked in with it and that you are being called a liar and threated a lawsuit?
Id seriously love to know how to get away with a head in your pants.
I know they say you are HUGE, but no penis takes up that much space in your pants.

By demanding information he had previously made clear he wasn't going to provide to you? Ya u pwned, killr. Nobody is interested in making you a more adept thief than you already are.Bimmerguy2002 wrote:ill take some with a side order of "i just owned Shawn D"
I have a career path for you, actually. Have you considered the car sales business? Your comfort with suspending morals for profit without a hint of remorse would serve you well. Your only stumbling block would be getting a buyer to actually buy into your oral diarhea.

Is that how you pwn on the internets? Supporting your arguments by making irrelevant, nonsensical points? You cant argue with sheer stupidity. That is a fact.Bimmerguy2002 wrote:ill take some with a side order of "i just owned Shawn D"
I'm sure you used to sell cars back when you were 18. Yeah, I totally believe that. What was that like a year ago?
I hope you get AIDS.

This thread has certainly takin' a turn from what was originally posted
To get back on topic, I know what you mean about being obsessed with working on your car. Honestly, when ever I am bored, I start working on little things on my car then I'll want to just start tearing everything apart to replace it all when it doesn't really need to be...I've started to limit myself.
For example, about a month ago, I was just doing a simple oil change. Then I started going through everything. I started tightening all of my belts because they felt a little loose. I was just about to unbolt my valve cover so I could do my valve adjustment that doesn't didn't really need to be done right then, then I almost started ripping my A/C out. I stopped, calmed down a bit from my madness, then went and bolted up anything I had started to un-do, and put away my tools. I look at it as a good and a bad thing, when I first got the car, I had no control...I was working on the car everyweek for months.
I think there was a month straight where I went to the local Wednesday night meets and my car had something new done to it. Now my habits are like a sine curve, where the y axis is how much I work on my car. It varies to say the least...sometimes I'll go a month without touching her, then there will be a month straight were I'll just go crazy.

Matt works hard to bring everybody else down to his level though. If folks didn't bite, he'd stop trolling...turbodan wrote:You wonder why?1985bmw535i wrote:This thread has certainly takin' a turn from what was originally posted![]()
Thank your buddy eurobeat.
Okay, that's a lie. He'd probably still keep trolling. It's like a sickness.

Now that's the truth. Actually Matt doesn't troll so much as bait. And if nobody takes the bait... You (the general you, nobody specific) with the hook in your mouth, took the bait. Don't. Both you and he will look better.Matt works hard to bring everybody else down to his level though. If folks didn't bite, he'd stop trolling...
Getting back on topic, ah, yes, that is an affliction that affects me and I suspect a lot more here. I mean a G265 tranny, how can you just leave it there for $75. A good leather steering wheel, you can't pass that up for a ten spot can you? Then on half price days, whoaaa, for only that much I know I can sell it or use it, it's only that much.
As a friend of mine says, My name is *** and I have a BMW problem
honestly, I consider myself to be relatively moralistic (well, nothing I do ever hurts anybody), and I can admit to the five finger discount at the junkyard. If I see a car with a complete set of relays, i don't want to pay $20 for some 25 year old electronics that are just as likely to be broken as mine are. I just pocket em and toss em in the glovebox.
Nothing worth a price of over $5 tho, I want the place to stay in business.
Although I have heard several people say the junkyard local to me is actually a front for organized crime to bury "inconvenient" cars in. Its been around for a while. So in that case I don't feel quite as bad.
Does that make me a bad person?

Troll (Internet)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Do not feed the trolls" and its abbreviation DNFTT redirects here. For the Wikipedia essay, see Wikipedia:What is a troll?
An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial and usually irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the intention of baiting other users into an emotional response[1] or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.

Why do we always forget? Please don't feed the eurobeat Troll
A man on here once typed a great message for people who are addicted to working on their cars:
An enthusiast is....
Someone who buys and works on a 20yr old car when they can afford a new one.
Someone who gets onto a chat forum and geeks out on a car most people have discarded long ago.
Someone who chooses to wrench on a car that is known to be less than maintenance free, and is happy to do so.
Someone who buys more than one of said 'less than maintenance free car'.
Someone who records, posts and discusses exhaust notes, and then can dissect different manufacturers sounds.
Someone who is willing to buy parts out of another continent that are visuualy different, when there are perfectly workable and useable parts within the US.
Someone who tries to talk a friend, neighbor or family member into buying said vintage car.
Someone who travels across the US or another continent to go to a car show.
Someone who refers to their car by its internal code and its color in its native language.
Someone who knows the name of the designer of their car, the city the car was manufactured in, and the historical timeline of the car.
Someone who has multiple other 'project' cars that
spouses/significant others know will never get finished.
Someone who not only goes to races but volunteers to work in them, FOR FREE.
Someone who buy/stores/trades/sells dirty car parts.
If these things look familiar, know that you are not afflicted, rather, you're an enthusiast!
