1985 M535i proce dropped

Post by Chrishamman »

Hello again. One person came by and test drove the M535i in Atlanta for sale. No takers yet. I'm dropping the price from $6000 to $3500. See my other posting for pictures on photobucket.

SASS? You'll have to help me there.

If the car is still around this weekend, I may give you a call.

So what needs refreshing on the car outside of the dash cracks and the paint on the spoiler? How are the mechanicals and cosmetics otherwise?

Left bolster of the drivers seat is worn to the pad

Gas sensor works sometimes and other times, it jumps

ABS light comes on after driving a bit

Hood will need repainting as the heat shield has rotted and heat from the engine has damaged the paint

Leather on the steering wheel is scuffed

Chrome trim needs glaze removed with fine sandpaper

The plastic chrome trim around the windows is ugly and needs replacing.

rust spot at left rear juncture of trunk opening and rear quarter panel.

All the bushings should probably be replaced not hat the drive is bad, it feels really good for such an old car, but because it is so old. (I'm replacing some bushings on my 85 e-30)

Are you fucking serious? That is a gorgeous car for a great price! Maybe I can finish my B35 swap up, sell that shit quick, and then we can talk.

Mechanicals? Clutch replaced recently? How's the engine, any work needed or done recently?

most recent new radiator. Clutch seems very good. Its much harder to depress than my e-30 that has been replaced a couple of times. THis one feels more like an old allis chalmers tractor clutch. Ever tried one of those?

The owner has the complete repair history in his hands. He did not drive it for three years and sat in his garage until about 6 months ago. He pulled it out and had some work done. The motor feels very strong to me. One person did come over for a test drive and he was impressed with the motor also. If the fellow who did is reading this, chime in.

Ted, I really like your 88 is. My wife is from the syracuse oswego area. She has told me about the winters there. She had some times where they stepped out of the second floor windows onto the snow.

Better keep the one you got (the wife). Takes forever to get them broken in right.

It is indeed a holy rear deck lid with a real mid nineties phone antennae. Those who were around for the mid nineties recall the height of coolness by having a phone aerial sticking out of their car. That meant you were really some sort of business person who was connected with the rest of the world. It was the nineties i phone. Car comes with additional aerial in the trunk. It is a bit longer. I think the ebay crowd will just come unglued over the aerials.

One interested buyer was hoping it would work for his teenage son. This is not a car for a teenager. Teenagers, including me, will wreck their first car. Dear all dads out there. Dont buy your kids e-30's or e-28's as your children's first car. Get them an SUV and a cell phone. When they hit 30, then let them buy their own BMW.

The car owner, mike, went looking for his title. Couldnt find it so another interested restorer asked him to get a duplicate. He did so today. But, the DMV cant go back to 85 and verify title. He had all his registration and original purchase materials so they offerred an 86 title. Dont ask me why, I have no idea. This may cause a problem for the restorer when it comes time to sell. I do know in Georgia after a certain date, title is passed by bill of sale. Guess this isnt done in Virginia.

So, I am in contact with those who have voiced interest in the car. If this sounds ok, come take a look. You canadian guys, will trade for Maple Leafs and Canuck beer, Eh?

e30 or e28...maybe not. SUV...hell no. We don't need them killing everyone else.
