Yup. Most if not all of them were converted to US spec lights when they were first federalized. A lot of people (including me) switched them back to euro lights later on.dauer wrote:To meet government regs. required to be federalized at time of importation.Vatoloco wrote:why would anyone change to us headlights?

I can't speak to prices in the US and I can't even see the car (ebay blocked at work) so I should probably shut up
However, it might be worth noting that there may be a rarity value, it has euro spec (apart from the lights I'm hearing) and the AFAIK the stock euro 528i compares favourably performance-wise with the US 533i and 535i. These figures from my hard drive, can't remember the source but am prepared to be corrected...

TOO MUCH
I agree with Ron P and Johnnye23 - this car is not in the same leauge. It's an vanilla 2.8 l-jet motor with comfort seats - no mods that I can see. Its a bare bones clean example. Now add a M30b35, wiring harness and ECU and 5-speed, manual sport seats, sport suspension and spoilers - You would have a great car. This is a good starting point for $3,000. Good Luck with the sale!
That's a fools bet. Like you said either the seller's indirectly bumping the price up or there's some sandbagging going on. Although it's in nice shape, it'd take a manual trans, sports seats, LSD, all suspension components and bushings to be up to snuff for me to even entertain anything in the realm of $4k to $5k. The scary thing is it's almost at $7k and the reserves not even met. $3k more and you're talking US M5 territory.RonP wrote:
Yeah, I paid $2600 for the Alpina clone which had the sport seats, LSD, H&R, Billies, and it was a really clean 528i. This guy is up to something. What do you want to bet this car is back again on ebay as a re-list?
euro car...too expensive
I dunno....i talked with the guy representing the car....he says some Cali guys are in hot pursuit.. one offered 6K opening day to end the acution....selller is holding out for at least 8K .....I always knew those west coast folks had plenty of dough....

Very good info to add to this discussion. If you had not called about the car, I would be prone to follow RonP, Johnny, & Paul's hunch that there's something fishy going on wrt bidding behavior.
The fact that the seller probably sunk some serious cash in the car (since 2000) probably has him holding out for the $8k which is pretty damned high, as the fellas have mentioned, for this model. In the listing, the seller quotes an original price of $55k which seems preposterous even for mid-80s dollars + federalization. What say ye? I hope it goes to a good home as it looks like a nice car...
Best,
Tim

Assuming the winning bidder proceeds with the purchase, the winning bid was $8,000. Impressive!

Guys its only $8000.
Think about what that buys in the used car world. A high mileage accord or a low mileage impala? Maybe even an E36 that people like you would rag on as being prone to breaking? That's a nice clean looking car with reasonable mileage. I still don't understand the mentality of criticizing clean examples of the cars most of you own that sell for good money
You want your cars to be high priced when insurance companies have to pay you but you talk shit when someone sells one for that price? Theres a word for that...stupid

Chris, nothing personal here, but I just went back and read ALL the posts and I don't think anyone was talking shit here. I just think there were some subjective opinions about a plain wrap 528i with an automatic, not very low mileage hitting such a high number. I am glad he got what he was looking for and the car met reserve. You want your cars to be high priced when insurance companies
There are very few euro spec e28s that are nice examples for sale in the US or the EU anymore, so I do agree that it's good for all of us in the community.
euro car
It brought top $, but IF the paint and body was as nice as it was claimed, i could see where a person could justify 8K....perfect body/paint, trim, dash, euro bumpers, etc., ain't cheap to duplicate....a motor/tranny swap and suspension upgrade and you'd have a very nice car that should be worth north of 10K.
if it where a bit closer I'd have taken a hard look at it.

maybe I'll
Finish my Euro 5er- nice paint, sport interior - perfect dash, all new suspension, brakes and exhaust. Maybe I'll throw in a fully rebuilt 10:1 Euro motor, Getrag 265, short shifter.
That should bring $9-9.5K
