dash brake light

Can anyone tell me why the dash brake light stays on? I assume this indicator light is for low fluid or worn pads. The pads are new and the fluid reservoir is full, but the light stays on. My car is a 1986-535

just because the pads are new doesn't mean that the pad wear sensor (just a wire) isn't worn through

Does the brake light on the dash have anything to do with the brakes at all? I thought that brake problems only went to the check lights...

There are three brake related lights in the instrument cluster.

Brake lining: Uses a one use thin sensor wire on the LF and RR brake. If it's on and your pads are OK, replace the sensor wire.

Parking Brake: Self explanatory

Brake: Hydraulic brake booster low pressure warning light combined with brake fluid level sensor. Check the brake fluid level, and refer to the bentley for hydraulic system pressure tests.

The one that is on is the one that simply says "brake". The brake lining light and the emergency brake lights due not come on. I checked the reservoir and it is full......switched out the sensor in the reservoir and it still stayed on. The brakes work fine at all times. Someone on the board suggested a master cylkinder problem?

This one is indicating you have a problem with the hydroboost system. Time to get out your Bentley manual. If you don't find a bad pressure switch or the wiring screwed up, you'll also need to source a set of high pressure gauges to test the system.
