Upper spring pad for non-SLS rear end

Post by MatthewCervi »

I have a disintegrating upper spring pad in the rear of my M5 causing a nice clunking noise. The suspension had the SLS deleted by a PO so I don't know what is in there now (oddly I have most of the car's records back to ~1988, but nothing on that chage).

Is the upper rear spring pad different for non-SLS than stock M5? The suspension is Bilstein shocks with a medium-blue spring if that makes any difference.

Upper spring pads rarely ever fail.My guess is that the PO did not change the upper shock mount and reused the upper shock mount along with the spring pad that came with it, therefore it failed. You in all likelihood need upper shock mounts and spring pads. Upper shock mounts are 26 each and upper spring pads are in the neighborhood of 3 each. Call or email and I'll get you a set

You're probably right, it didn't look like the spring fit the mount perfectly. Email sent.

Matthew - OT, but I didn't know you had an E28, let alone the M5!
I hope you'll bring something down to the Herndon VA gathering next Sat, 9/30.

I just got it a couple months ago and it has really only been road-worthy for a few weeks. Unfortunately I don't think I'm going to be able to make Herndon. My son has a soccer game late morning and I have a date planned with my wife at dinner time (a couple days after her birthday...don't think I can get away with trying to change it). Sigh...hope everyone else has a good time there.
