E28 M5 Rear Calipers on Ebay

Post by ron k »

All,

I'm trying to clean out the garage and have a set of rear calipers from my old E28 M5. They were working great when I replaced them with 540 units courtesy of S. Haygood. I'm happy to answer any questions about them.

Thanks,

Ron

Ron,

There's nothing special about the rear calipers of the E28 M5. Same parts as the 528eta.

Let us know how the eBay auction goes. I have a set of E34 540i/M5 rear brakes sitting on my work bench to replace the rear brakes on my Euro M5. I could then pedal the take offs on the Bay as rare Euro E28 M5 rear brakes. It wouldn't be considered false advertising, they are takeoffs from my Euro M5.

Rich,

Yeah, I didn't think they were "M" special parts. I do need them out of my garage though. Thats why there is no reserve and the bids start at 10.00. They are worth something to somebody...I just need to to find that person.

Thanks,

Ron

Yup, someone on a tight budget could definately put them to use. Paying a small amount +S/H for a pair would sure beat paying retail.

Clarification

Post by laguna30 »

I once posted that the M5 rear calipers where the same other E28s and was not so politely told : wrong

They have larger pistons then other E28 calipers

Not enough to make a difference was my thought but I'm sure it adds "M" value at the dealer. LOL

Never checked up on this - Anyone know for sure ?

Although I typically avoid posting replies to technical and repair questions, the E28 M5 and E24 M6/35CSi use the same 284mmx10mm rear brake discs (P/N. 34211162968) as all E28 5 and E24 6 series models. However, the M5 and M6/35CSi rear calipers (P/N. 34211160393 and 34211160394) have a 35mm piston instead of the 33mm* piston used other E28 5 and E24 6 series models (P/N. 34211160397 and 34211160398).

Best,
RCBMW

*I am interested in measuring the rear pistons in other E28/ E24 models to verify the application of the 33mm piston.
