Greetings/Intro and Moving to South OC!

Post by Hamada »

Hope everyone is having a great Thursday!

So I have been lurking on this forum, absorbing so much knowledge and getting valuable answers from amazing members here who never met or know me.  For that I am very grateful.  My story is that I bought an 85 535im back in October 25.  It was in a rough shape TBH, but I paid a very good price for it.  I started tackling so many issues to get it to a good condition. I am no stranger to being a custodian to an old classic bimmer and all the "fun" stress that comes along. Its part of the whole experience IMO.
Here is when I got it. It was a survivor from Altadena fires last year so it was extra special for me to care for it.

Paint was gone in usual places hood/roof/trunk and starting to wear on the side panels, but that was not just it. There were MANY issues that needed attention too much to list. I can say without a doubt that I paid so far at least 5 times what I paid for the car. My wife better not be reading this.
As it sits today and yes I know I will get the criticism for the 17inch mtech wheels, but come on man did you think the e39 m5 knock offs looked better? I didn't pay 10k for paint job though neither did I take it to Maaco. Just trying to make it a somehow presentable driver to have fun with it. This is still work in progress.

Now the second thing I wanted to mention is I am moving to South OC after living in LA for 36 years. I am wondering if there are any OC guys around here (yes I know about the San Diego meet and sadly I missed it this year due to work) and where do you go for e28 maintenance..etc?

Thank you all and see you soon on PCH!

Many here go to their garage or since many of these in CA are converted to an added room for the home, to their local shade tree and do the work themselves. Sometimes you can find a few locals wanting to get things done at a wrenchfest at someone’s home.

Car shows well enough with the new paint that you should be accepted in south OC where there are a few nice E28s.  Maybe some locals will post about opportunities to gather, drink and bench race or about possible wrenching opportunities or good local shops.

I’ve got a pile of projects on my ride and hoping to have a wrenchfest here in the next month or two.  Already have a few that would attend.  Add something cooking on the grill and it should be fun.

The car looks great and thanks for saving it!

Call Ron at Coast Motor Werk and tell him Darin sent ya.
If he don't answer it will be Jodi. You can tell her the same thing and you will get the same great treatment.
And if they don't treat you well, please let me know and I will fix that!

Yeeeeow, looks sharp with new paint. Looks very nice, my complements even if it's not a 20K paint job, and I can't tell from here. Brings a smile to my face!

Nice! Did you buy this car from Owen?

I live in LA but also in south OC often (San Clemente). Wondering also where you had your paint done? Looks so good!

Yes it is Owen’s old car.  He is a good guy.  I bought it from him last October.  Still some work to do!

The paint still needs some polishing to get rid of some orange peel.  Already got to DA polisher and everything will work on that in the next few weeks when I have time.
It was some random body shop I found nearby tbh.  I will PM you his info.

Thanks,
Hamada
