Starter/Bellhousing fastener(s)

Post by Canuck YYC »

I (perhaps foolishly) bought a large bucket of confusion disguised as a semi-complete project car recently that has uhm...challenged me from time to time. To be fair, what's complete is done well enough and I still don't feel like I got a bad deal. However relying on the Bentley Bible, ETM and RealOEM to sort out buckets of bits hasn't always been productive.

The project is an E34 B35 swap into a late 86 535i. Both cars were manual however while I have 2 engines from the deal, I only have one 260/6 trans. It has the sensor bosses drilled in the bellhousing so could have come from either car. Oddly, the RealOEM listing for a DC74 configuration car shows the correct 260/6 in the manual trans page, but on the mounting page the bellhousing is different which I've only noticed now while composing this. Well...it looks like that page of RealOEM is out to lunch., while the E34 version lists the hardware that I eventually bought after much confusion on RealOEM.

However this is all a very long-winded way of getting to the question: Is there no fastener on the driver's side starter bolt location in the bellhousing (pic for clarity)? Does the inside (between starter and block) starter bolt (not shown) share the same threads as fastener 4 coming in from the bellhousing side?
