FS: 1985 Euro 535i and 1985 Euro 735i near Charlotte, NC

Post by Southernboy »

It’s unfortunately time to thin the herd a bit.  I’ve got too many cars and need to get to a more manageable level.  I’ve decided to sell my two 1985 Euro cars.
The first is a Delphin grey 5-speed KAT 10/85 535i.  I bought it from the original owner here in NC back in 2014, and have had it as a fun car when I’m back home in the states.
It’s gotten a new paint job and a lot of sorting done on the suspension and brakes.  I’ve put over 10k miles on it in the last 10 years, so it has seen some action, and has had at least two trips to the Vintage in that time.
Other than the power steering pump which is a little loud when it’s cold, I would say that it’s mechanically quite sorted.  The interior is probably the biggest let down on it.  It sat outside the original owners business for many years and baked in the NC sun.  The dash and the cloth comfort seats show the sun damage that is expected.
As far as the body goes, it’s accident free and there is absolutely no rust on it anywhere.

General: 228,xxx miles and second owner.

Exterior: Delphin grey repaint in 2016. A good job at the time, but they did miss the door jams.  Has the Euro wheel arch extenders like the M535i’s had. Interior: Pearl beige cloth comfort seats with rear headrests.  Some sun damage, but still serviceable.  The material to re-cover them is still available, but leather may be the easier course of action.

Engine: the normal 185hp M30-B34, like in the US cars.  The original owner took that option to make it easier to deal with when she brought it back to the States in 85.

Transmission: Standard 5-speed

Wheels: BBS RA in 7x16 on all corners and some older Dunlop sports.

A/C: was upgraded to the AC Solutions version in 2021.  It’s still not modern “ice cold”, but it will hold it’s own in a NC summer.

Suspension:  New Bilsteins all the way around on standard springs.  Also all the suspension components replaced between 2015 and 2017.

The 735i is a Diamond black 04/85 4-speed auto car with the 218hp “dirty” M-30.  It’s a car that fell into my lap about 3 years ago.   It’s also a Southern car and has spent it’s whole life in GA and the Carolinas.   Once again no rust, but has also suffered from the sun.
The e23 has the very cool “Executive Ausstattung” which comes with the natural buffalo leather seats.  They need to be cleaned, but are surprising in very good condition.
Mechanically I’ve had the brakes and the suspension completely replaced.  Bilstein all the way around with new H&R lowering springs and all the bushings are new.  It rides like a new car.  There is still an occasional miss so the next step will be to have a look at the ignition system, but I’m going to leave that for the next owner to look at.  This car would make the perfect rolling restoration.  It has really good bones.

General: 161,xxx miles and I believe I am the 3[sup]rd[/sup] owner.

Exterior: Diamond Schwarz  with quite a bit of clear coat failure.  No rust, and as I can see also no accidents.  However it does have the normal dings that you can find on a 40 year old car.

Interior: Buffalo leather “executive” version with the seat controls for the rear passenger in the center console along with the radio.  The dash as suffered under the sun, but the rest of the interior is ok, and the wood is for the most part in quite good condition.

Engine and transmission: 218hp M30-B34 paired with the ZF switchable 4-speed.  Run and shifts like it should, but there is an occasional miss in the ignition system.

Suspension:  All new Bilstein’s with H&R lowering springs and all the suspension and steering bushings replaced in the last year.  Brakes: completely sorted and all wear items replaced.

Wheels:  Hartge classics in 7x16 on all 4 corners with Michelin PS tires. That is one last thing that I will mention about the old e23’s.

Pound for pound they are some of the most fun and comfortable BMW’s that you can have.  Of all the different BMW’s that I’ve had (and that’s a lot), these old 7’s certainly have a soft spot in my heart.

I’m asking $16k for the e-28 and $8k for the e-23.  I’m open to discussions and I want to be as transparent as possible, so please let me know if you have any questions.

As I’m only over in the US a few weeks a year, I don’t have a US cell number, so the best option to discuss in more detail is to message me and we can set up a call.   Thanks for taking the time to look at this, and I hope I can put both of these cars in a good home that will look after them and enjoy them as I did.

Thanks!  I hate to sell them, but it's time to move them on to someone else so that focus on other projects.
My B3 turned 25 this year, and I'm looking to bring that over as a new US vacation car.
