Floor mats

I am looking for a neat set of original anthracite floor mats.
Thanks for your reply. But I hope I still come across an original set somewhere.BMWCCA2 wrote: Jan 06, 2022 8:49 PM For years, Covercraft.com was the BMW OE supplier for floor mats in the USA. They still custom make them for our cars in nearly a dozen color choices. I doubt you'll find better. Around $90 for a set of four, with free shipping.
I wouldn't believe it until I've seen it but several suppliers show this part number as available: https://www.schmiedmann.com/en/product/ ... -1-915-655Alberto89 wrote: Jan 07, 2022 3:07 AMThanks for your reply. But I hope I still come across an original set somewhere.
The new ones are nothing life the original factory (or dealer) mats.BMWCCA2 wrote: Jan 07, 2022 7:45 AMI wouldn't believe it until I've seen it but several suppliers show this part number as available: https://www.schmiedmann.com/en/product/ ... -1-915-655Alberto89 wrote: Jan 07, 2022 3:07 AMThanks for your reply. Thanks for the link. At the bottom it says it's for the "E28 X6 (e71), so don't get it. Will email them.BMWCCA2 wrote: Jan 07, 2022 7:45 AMI wouldn't believe it until I've seen it but several suppliers show this part number as available: https://www.schmiedmann.com/en/product/ ... -1-915-655Alberto89 wrote: Jan 07, 2022 3:07 AMThanks for your reply. Can you send me a picture to see what they look like? I care about the material.John in VA wrote: Jan 07, 2022 8:19 AM I have a new set of factory Perl beige mats, but you have Black or Anthrazit.
I don't quite understand what you mean sorry.reesesboot wrote: Jan 07, 2022 12:46 PMThe new ones are nothing life the original factory (or dealer) mats.BMWCCA2 wrote: Jan 07, 2022 7:45 AMI wouldn't believe it until I've seen it but several suppliers show this part number as available: https://www.schmiedmann.com/en/product/ ... -1-915-655Alberto89 wrote: Jan 07, 2022 3:07 AMThanks for your reply. I believe he's referring to the quality/thickness of the carpet mats. In my experience the E39, E46, F22 & F30 factory mats are very thin compared to the original quality of E28 & E30.Alberto89 wrote: Jan 07, 2022 3:24 PMI don't quite understand what you mean sorry.reesesboot wrote: Jan 07, 2022 12:46 PMThe new ones are nothing like the original factory (or dealer) mats.

I'm afraid shipping a set of mats from USA to you would be cost-prohibitive.
Thank for the information. I'll give the dealer a call tomorrow. They may still be able to deliver them.Blue Shadow wrote: Jan 09, 2022 8:10 AM The mats pictured in John's post are what was sold by BMW back in the day. As stated above the flap covering the dead pedal was discontinued over the years. Don't know if finding an original set is possible.
There are alternatives to the current BMW offering from the aftermarket. Don't know what companies in Europe would offer mats for such low production, old cars as E28s. The Lloyds recommendation is a good one.
The mats sold by BMW for our cars in the USA back then were not imported from BMW but rather made by and sold to BMW NA by Covercraft (see my earlier post). In my shop, I used to order them through an importer in New York from Hochstedtler (or something like that) who were an OE supplier for BMW in the rest of the world. At that time also our Porsche mats from Porsche actually came from Lloyds. It wasn't until the Audi "Unintended Acceleration" scare in the late '80s that any of our German cars came from the factory with mats. Audi fixed a pair of posts to the floor and had a "button-hole" in the mats to secure them away from interfering with the brake and gas pedals. BMW offered some Rube Goldberg pinned-on clip that reminded me of the mitten clips we had on our parkas as kids so we wouldn't lose our mittens in the snow.Blue Shadow wrote: Jan 09, 2022 8:10 AM The mats pictured in John's post are what was sold by BMW back in the day. That will certainly be true. There are many other things that are not made by BMW itself. The reason I want to choose original is that I know for sure that the color will match. Surely there would be someone who still has a used set from a scrap yard?BMWCCA2 wrote: Jan 09, 2022 10:35 AMThe mats sold by BMW for our cars in the USA back then were not imported from BMW but rather made by and sold to BMW NA by Covercraft (see my earlier post). The dead-pedal cover flap was a nuisance and IIRC it was held in place with some stupid double-sided sticky tape—or nothing at all. They would normally flop down and get in the way. I recall tucking the flap under the mat to keep it out of my way. Original may not always be the best choice or, in this case, even truly "original" from BMW.
Possibly, but the darker colors often faded from sun or washing. Did you try contacting Ivo (ovide here on the forum)? He's in your part of the world! https://www.e28.nl/en/product-category/interior/Alberto89 wrote: Jan 09, 2022 11:14 AMThat will certainly be true. The method of attachment was a chunk of velcro the mat came with the other side of the velcro attached to the velcro on the mat. The PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) on that chunk of velcro for the dead pedal probably stuck for about a month before the mat was free of the dead pedal attachment.BMWCCA2 wrote: Jan 09, 2022 10:35 AM
