I hope I am not rehashing old story but I am looking for comments on URO windshield weatherstripping fitment. In my search for replacement weatherstrippings for both front and rear windshields apparently URO offers a rear weatherstripping at 1/4 cost of a genuine BMW part. Would anyone care to chime in on its fitment?
Going the genuine BMW route is always my first choice. But at nearly $600 for both front and rear weatherstrippings warrants a look into alternatives. Are there still after market options for our nearly 30+ years old cars?

Just like anything else made by URO Parts/APA, they are 110% garbage that will fail in a year or two.
Re: URO windshield weatherstripping fitment
I put a URO windshield rubber in my E12, same part as E28, in 2008. When I sold it last spring it was as new and didn't leak a drop. Now the lockstrip shrunk considerably, I have no idea what brand, but the gasket itself held up fine.

Re: URO windshield weatherstripping fitment
Hi guys, just saw this thread. We sell a surprising number of Windshield Seal 51 31 1 822 185 annually, with no returns or defect reports. On Amazon the seal only has two reviews, but does have 5/5 stars. Same goes for Rear Window Seal 51 31 1 820 485.
Hope that helps!

I’ve had one holding my rear glass in for around 5 years with no complaints. My installer did say something about adding some sort of non adhesive sealant to help prevent leaks, but it might not need it. Good luck!

That sounds like standard BMW specs. The OE stuff is almost like putty, I always use a non hardening sealant and it's worked great.AdamCosmos wrote: Apr 11, 2025 9:06 PM I’ve had one holding my rear glass in for around 5 years with no complaints. DO NOT USE A POLYEURTHANE OR SILICONE SEALANT. Use the right stuff and it will seal just fine without gluing it in place. Seal it, don't glue it.

Do you have a specific brand of non hardening sealant you use? And do you use it glass to rubber, rubber to body or both? Thanks!

3M 8509 Bedding and Glazing was my long time go to sealant, but it appears to no longer be available, at least here in the US. I recently used a CR Laurence product, for a slightly different application and it seems exactly the same as the good old 3M product. Even smells the same.CanadianMiniFan wrote: Apr 12, 2025 10:58 AM Do you have a specific brand of non hardening sealant you use? And do you use it glass to rubber, rubber to body or both? Thanks!

BMW specs between the body and the gasket, I use it both there and between the glass and the gasket. I've done a bunch over the years with no leakage problems. It's messy as hell, sticky, gooey, but works well, doesn't harden and seals. Use paint thinner for cleanup and expect a mess.

Re: URO windshield weatherstripping fitment
Thanks for the quick reply! Most of the British windshields I have done seal fine with no sealant and a similar seal and lock strip, but I always read about issues with e28 glass leaking, especially with aftermarket glass. Would rather just do it once and not have to get back in there if it does leak.
