Ignition Table
Hi guys,
Over the course of the last months I've installed MS3 on the e28, first by fitting a M1.0->M1.3 harness (thanks Matt!) and then went the next step and assembled my own MS3 with MS3X.
The idea is to go turbo, but first I'm going to build another harness, along with individual coils and wiring to have the injectors sequential as well. I was also thinking of putting a VR sensor on the cam (when I remove the distributor) so I can go sequential instead of semi-sequential.
Anyway, I've been toying with MS settings, my Ignition table is a compendium of several I've seen, after that I subtracted a couple (or maybe more) degrees to the whole table to be on the safe side.
Now that my car Idles alright, and has a "good" fuel table, I wanted to get back to the ignition table.
I've seen several, as I've said, but none for a stock M30B34, I also saw that cek posted some that are stock (059 and 179), but I'm not sure they have a direct translation to the MAP based table we have on MS.
I'd like a safe but not THAT safe table until I can get to the dyno and do a proper tune.

I have a US M30B34 and feel like I have a conservative tune for 91 Octane. I removed timing from the B35 map on the Megasquirt FAQ here and have been tuning for driveability. It now runs B35/10:1 cam, fyi.

I have since adjusted slightly in a few places, just for better transitions. I'm not sure how the map changes if you had a 10:1 engine.
I'd be curios to see others but please share your octane rating and trigger wheel angle for a relative comparison!!

My bad, forgot to add I also have a B35 camtschultz wrote:

Fuel rating here is based on RON (instead of averaging RON and MON as done there) and is 95 (I think it would equate to your 89)

Here's some good reading I found:
Max torque is approximately 4000rpm, so it is my understanding this location should have a bit less timing than the rpm's just before it.
Also, I idle at fixed 12.5* in closed loop idle. Not a big difference from other angles, but I idle around 30kpa at my altitude and this gave me the lowest MAP value.
Why the strange bump up at 2000 vs down at 2500? Maybe smooth that out a bit...

Fixed that bump by smoothing it out.
I see that you have less timing than I do in general.
About the idle, this is what pulled more vacuum in my engine, I'm at sea level, that might be the reason for that.
Excellent article, been looking for ignition timing articles but most just say " go to the dyno and do it there ", I found nothing for at least a start at a good ignition table.

n/a there is no danger put 20 for starters go up 2 and stop when it doesn't feel any faster and go back.
you start losing power fast after optimum numbers.
even with that much advance i put in n/a it never pings on 91.
The n/a portion was just a guess though to get it driving around.
23* was what it made the best power 24* after 5k on the dyno @ 17psi
on the street i had it to 22* so the method works well. you just can't be a ricer and be like " i thiiinkk it's faster so i'm just going to put in 2 more just in case" you lost the game at that point.

Fred633, where did you get that table? it looks remarkably like the Motronic one with those load values.
I seem to be watching a trend, and that is that at WOT I'm using way less advance than I should be, so probably leaving quite a lot on the table
