Tom Petty suffers cardiac arrest

Post by John in VA »

Sad to hear this as he was one of my favorites from his first album. Wish I'd gone to Baltimore to see the 40th anniversary tour earlier this summer.

Tom Petty, the rocker best known as the frontman of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, is dead at 66, CBS News has confirmed.
The legendary musician suffered a full cardiac arrest and was found unconscious and not breathing in his Malibu home Sunday night. He was taken to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital and put on life support.

They also said he's not expected to survive the day. I'm devestaded. I was obsessed with him in high school in the late 90's, the same time my first car was an 84' 528e. Some fantastic memeories in that car and most of them with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on in the background. A great songwriter, live performer and American icon.

Thanks for the songs and memories. Petty was probably the biggest part of my life in terms of tunes ! I specifically remember playing "break down" when I was hanging with this coed that went to an all girls school in North Carolina.

I remember listening to "Don't come around here no more" just after getting divorced. Music for the emotional nerve endings, pure virtuoso.

Sad day - If any of you guys have SiriusXM radio, Tom had a great channel called "Buried Treasure", #712. Give it a listen, and I'll bet you're not disappointed.

Got black out drunk at a fair and wound up laying on the floor of one of those spinning pots that rides on another platform that spins puking my guts out to his song "Refugee".
