535i vs 524 td cooling capacity

Different part #'s for radiator in an automatic 535i and 524td. Would either radiator support greater cooling?

I thought the M30 and M20(td is M20 based) had the hoses routed completely opposite one another. 535 hot fluid goes in top left and cool out lower right while M20 eta it is top right and low left? Maybe I'm confusing an M20 eta and an M20 'i' engine though so you better check and don't rely on stock pictures online. Generally a diesel needs less cooling and I would think that the 535 radiator would support 'more' or the 'most' cooling as it's the biggest engine. The automatic transmission version of the radiator also means it will have the internal heat exchanger for the trans cooler lines. So the manual version is no good for an automatic (you would need an external added trans cooler) but the automatic version will work fine for a manual trans and you have some unused ports on the side tank. Maybe more than you asked for...

The TD radiator has a kink in the upper radiator hose connection.

Personally, I try to get a z3m S54 radiator to fit in all my cars. 3 core. It's amazing.

Hoses are in different places and are different diameters on M20 (and I'm guessing M21) radiators and M30 radiators. I think the cores are the same size which is where the actual cooling takes place, but flow capacity is an issue too.

If you want more cooling capacity just use the tropical radiator that was available for our models.
They have more finer fins which gives the radiator increased surface to cool.
I just fitted one of those (brandnew from Behr) and it is fantastic:

as you can see it is the number 17 11 1 712 447 (for manual, M30). Those radiators are also available for M20's.

I don't think any "bigger" is necessary. This radiator does a wonderful job, even here in Australia at 40 degrees C and more, never had an overheating issue.

I have one in my e34 535i. I'm sure it will fit the e28. It fits e30s, as does the e28 OE radiator.

It's thicker, which means fan clearance may be an issue, but it'll fit.

I'll try to snag some pics of the 524td rad and the S54 rad.

If you are talking all aluminum E36 radiators you can get them stupid cheap. Not the 3 core like Slammin' is talking about, but still all aluminum would be sexy. Hoses are in about the right places for a M30 and I think the right size. Only 1 fitting for a fan switch so you would have to use a later double switch, but that's not hard. Mounting would also be custom, but not difficult I wouldn't think.
