Fuel Hose I.D.?

Anyone know the fuel hose inner diameter - connecting from hard line to fuel rail. My BMW shop not open Sundays so I'll be dealing with whoever's open; specs not in Haynes or readable on hose, vile cretin has not returned Bentley, can't get under the car right now to remove and take with me. I may want to get a smaller diameter hose to avoid this leak in the future. Out of curiosity, has anyone replaced rubber lines/clamps with hard lines and pressure fittings?TIA.

Its 8x13mm, that is 8mm inner dia. and 13mm outer diameter.

Whole car uses the same size except the feed line from the pre-pump to the main pump, its bigger...

Thanks - have you ever jammed a 7mm to the fuel rail to avoid the chronic leak?

5/16 Id hose = 7.9mm . Using a 7mm hose will be a real PITA to use. If you managed to get it on , It would fail prematurely, because it has been stretched too much. The 8mm hose is pretty good stuff. Ive used it without clamps and had no problems.

There is a spec for high pressure fuel hose, J 370h or some thing. Napa has it in 5/16.

Thanks - possibly wrong size hose currently on, but doubtful - clamps tight (don't want to tighten further and cut hose) and the damper spins like a top and hose turns freely at fuel rail connection - will probably remove damper before installing new hose, 2 less clamps to worry about. Did you see my question about hard lines and pressure fittings to replace hoses/clamps? Ever seen that done?

I heard Mercedes uses 7.5mm hose, and that it fails prematurely if used on an e28. I'd have no problem using 5/16 hose on an e28, if it were rated for the pressure.

Look for "J30R9" (the SAE spec) on the hose. If you ask for "fuel injection hose" that's what they'll usually give you, and it is correct for the pressure.

Thanks, that's what I got, 5/16 (7.9 mm) - fit snug, but still a little too loose for my taste - but they won't be overstretched - I'd still like to investigate replacing hoses/clamps with something less failure prone.

Use BMW hose clamps from the dealer. They dont cost that much, and they wont cut up your hoses.

In addition to the dealer clamps you could get the injection ones from Napa. They work fine for the hoses, better than the cheap clamps.

Just an FYI.....The price qoute per foot I got from Napa for 5/16 ($5.+) was more than ordering BMW 8mm fuel line.
