Unfortunately, I just lost some credibility for Burroughs since he mentioned a M30B34 in the E12 M535i and 210 horsepower.

Otherwise good photos( as usual), and a neat car.

Also, is that a E24 mirror on the driver's side, but not on the passenger?

Pretty nice but with some imperfections like headlights that are not lined up good and stuff like that.

I followed that car on the freeway for a while in San Diego. It sounds sweet. That motor is way cool. Wish there were more photos of it. We've all seen Ireland headers

I guess I need to find the right drivetrain for my M535i.

I actually have no idea what the M535i stuff had to do with this car. Ron isn't trying to suggest its like an M535i.

Very cool motor. I would like to give that thing a listen as well. I wondered the same thing about the M535i focus. Seemed a bit odd. Hate the color (one man's vanilla is another's rocky road as colors go), but a beautiful build, all the same.

I didn't even know this was in the works! I mistook it for the other beige e12 Ron sold a few years ago that went through Barret Jackson and several owners, but I assume this one is different?

The article said the m20 was swapped, is that a typo?

If you have the opportunity to see Ron's E12 in the flesh, do it! That's a very nice layout in Stanceworks, but it still doesn't convey the detail of his stunning transformation. Gorgeous car!

Has anyone ever seen that Dinan airbox for the triple Webers before? I hunted for a cold air supply solution for my triple 45s all through the 1980s, and other than an Alpina box (which I never seriously considered and might not be applicable to 45s anyway), I never saw anything on the market. I definitely never saw this Dinan box...and always hated having the Webers breathing radiator heated air.

I'd hope Dinan made the airbox since their name is on it. Its a cool piece for sure, though I can't imagine it would be too tough to make on your own if you wanted. With enough money, I'm sure anything was possible and with the build this motor had, it's not out of the question to think it could even be a one-off. I don't imagine Dinan built a lot of motors with carburetors on them. Then again, like most Dinan parts it could just be something from another BMW they stuck their name on. :P kidding of course.

If they (Dinan) built it was probably a one off, one use item.
Dinan didn't even bother to paint or powder coat the one on my car let alone put there name on it.

Apologies if I got the information on the M535i's engine incorrect -
Can someone enlighten me as to what the correct engine is instead of giving me a hard time?

I'd be happy to make the appropriate changes.

As for why it's mentioned, it's building upon the E12 performance options, and how Ron's car takes the E12 idea a step further. I figured that was pretty clear.

Its a 218hp M90. It's an M30 but has a larger bore and a shorter stroke. Displacement is 3453cc vs 3430 for the M30B34. The block is what was used subsequently for the M88 and S38B35 albeit with minor changes.

I still don't see what the M535i has to do with this particular car really, as in my mind they're quite different cars with different goals. Of course, it's your creativity and vision that made stanceworks what it is and I don't have a website so, what do I know? Haha.

They can't all be perfect, it looks pretty nice to me but my e12 is in 40,000 pieces so I'm kinda jealous that some people get to drive their cars!

I would imagine they made it. They actually go back much further than I remember. I have seen a couple of Dinan E21's. One was a 79 and had twin Webers, the other a 323i.

I don't think Korman ever had a similar air box for the triple Webers. Ray built a hot M30 for me in early 1981, and the air filter solution at that time was foam elements, forget the name of them now, but you had to run them without the velocity stacks. Somewhat later he started using Uniflow (I think) individual socks, so I switched to those using the velocity stacks on the Webers...did have to trim one of the stacks due to brake booster interference (72 Bav).

I do recall seeing the Alpina air box on cars at his shop however. It was big $$$ at the time.
