1985 535i parts

Post by llama »

My '85 535i has recently been diagnosed with bad frame rot. It also has a major oil leak (rear main seal). These two things together combined with some other issues (bad speedometer, odometer, power steering pump) means that I have to get rid of the car.

Before I do, I wanted to see if anyone here might be interested in buying this car whole for it's parts. I've driven this car for the last 8.5 years and have kept all records of service done and parts replaced. It recently passed NJ inspection. I'm not in a position to part it out, so it is for sale as is. (I'm in NJ, near Princeton).

Here's a list of parts I've recently replaced:

Muffler (summer '13)
Michelin tires (summer '12 - have about 5-10k miles. These are warrantied to 90k)
Wheels from an e34 5-series (replaced these in '06)
Rebuilt automatic transmission (replaced summer '12)
Radiator (fall '09)
Battery (summer '13)
Driveshaft (2006)
Fuel pump (summer '13)

A few more details about the car. It's white with llama interior, automatic transmission. Overall, it has a bit of rust by the windshield and under the rear bumper but otherwise the exterior is in good condition (other than the frame rot). The interior leather is good except for the driver's seat which has some tears. The steering wheel leather has a rip in it.

The car starts right up and drives great. Heat works great. AC does not. No electrical problems. The speedometer and the odometer don't work (I can safely estimate that the car has about 240,000 miles on it). The turn signal stalk sometimes fails when signaling a right turn. The oil light stays on despite the level. There's an anti-lock brake light on as well.

I've got an offer of $350 to haul it away, but I just spent $750 on a new muffler a couple of months ago, not to mention the $3k on a rebuilt transmission the summer before last. I don't hope to recoup anywhere near what I've invested in the car, but if it can be put to good use I'd prefer that.

I don't have any good pics right now, but if there's interest I'm happy to provide lots of high rez images.
