Help: Tips needed on removing catalytic from manifold

Hey all,

I'm trying to replace my catalytic converter.
I'm having loads of trouble getting at the 6 nuts holding the two catalytic converter down pipes onto the exhaust manifold. They are rather seized on there.

Is there a trick to getting the leverage needed to break free those nuts?
What tools and from what angle have you guys managed to get those nuts off?

I'd also recommend soaking the studs and nuts with PBlaster or your favorite penetrating lubricant for a few days before trying to loosen them.

This. I got a 14(?)mm swivel socket from Sears for about $4, and put it on a 12" extension, and was able to crack them loose with no penetrant. Wouldn't hurt to spray some PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench on them though.

Maybe a little to late to add but be sure that it is a 6 point socket and not a 12. 12's too easily round the nuts off.

A propane torch will help loosen about anything. If your exhaust is as badly corroded as mine, heat may be your best friend.

Ditto on the 6 point.
