Legends, Festorics, and Oktoberfest. Monterey, CA 8/16-8/23

Post by OcCoupe »

2013 is a pretty significant year for events at Monterey. Not only do we have the Legends of the Autobahn and the Festorics; but this year we also have Oktoberfest which is back to back with Legends and the Festorics.

In addition to all of this, 2013 is also the 25th anniversary for the North American M5; and to commemorate this Silver Anniversary the organizers of Legends of the Autobahn, the Festorics, and Oktoberfest are looking for a large M5 attendance to these events; so if you have an M5 or know someone that does please let them know and do your best to make it to Monterey!

Event dates are as follows and are in concurrence with the Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance and surrounding activities.

Legends of the Autobahn:

http://www.legendsoftheautobahn.org/

Friday August 16th at the Pasadera Country Club Pasadera
100 Pasadera Dr Monterey, CA 93940
(831) 647-2400

Festorics:
http://www.festorics.org/festorics2013/ ... orraltheme

Saturday August 17th & Sunday the 18th

Laguna Seca

Corral Theme:
The BMW CCA Festorics corral in August will be bustling with the sounds of BMWs. But for added excitement, our attraction car in the corral will be the E28 M5. Once known as nothing less than that supercar in disguise, BMW astonished the public with an extreme performance car in a family car camouflage. Only later did BMW add cladding and spoilers to the body of the 5-series to create its powerful version.
The BMW M5 is a high performance version of the BMW 5-Series executive car built by the Motorsport division of BMW. First introduced at the Amsterdam Motor Show in 1984, hand-built utilizing the 535i chassis and a modified BMW M1 engine, one of the fastest production sedans in the world at the time.

Each Festorics we select unique, rare, or pristine examples of BMW models to display in the hospitality area of our corral. This year we'll be celebrating BMW's fabulous M5! Do you have a special BMW in this category, and feel that your car deserves to be in the hospitality area of our corral?
For consideration, please send photos and a brief description of why your car deserves to be shown off to Sven Schindler.
Submissions must be received by July 31st. This year promises a lot of excitement! So don't delay - Register and we'll see you there.

BMWCCA Oktoberfest
This is a weeklong series of events that include a BMW Concours event, track, time and various instructional courses and seminars for BMWCCA members. This week starts the Monday after the Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance which is Sunday August 18th.

Okoberfest Concours and other events:

August 19th-23rd

http://www.bmwccaofest.org/

There's a group of us that try to make it to these events every year. We always have a blast, meet some great enthusiasts, and come back with great memories and stories. It would be great to see a big e28 and e28 M5 turn out this year.

Planning to attend these events this year - been on the "wish list" for too long and can't resist the double deal of Monterey events with the BMWCCA Oktoberfest in the same location. :alright:

Well, I guess this means it's not too early to talk about Monterey. :D

I was thinking about taking the e30 this year because Sven's mailbox is full.

This year's house reminds me of the 2011 house.

I call dibs on the 'Crow's Nest Room' (pending some tree removal).

A good compliment to The Drink Daddy for sure.

While cool and most welcome to join us try dragging that to the winner's circle at Legends. It will be cast aside in mere moments. Ask me how I know...

Well I know it's no E28, but it would nice to see Greg's #1 production M5 Touring get some love at Legends & Festoric's. I've always thought it was a big deal to DRIVE a car with a few 0's and a 1 at the end of the vin., especially a special car like the M5, Sedan or Touring (wagon)
Great first post, its great to see someone talking it up here.

I'll be a Laguna Seca this coming Saturday, for the last "ALMS" race at Laguna Seca. We'll see what the future holds for this awesome series with the new platform in the coming years.

You will also need a new caddy for this and the daddy. I have a prior commitment near that time. Besides, my face is known to the organizers so it wouldn't work anyway. Maybe if you have a white guy try it ...

Just had my receipt e-mailed to me. On that page they have a few lodging links. One is for the Chez Vagabond Inn Monterey, at $425 per night. Are you kidding me? I sure hope that comes with Vaseline. See you's in a few weeks fellas! :alright:

What day is everyone getting into town? I'm thinking of heading down for Friday's events and it would be nice to put faces to names. I may be in town for the weekend as well.

Cheaper options for hotels are in Salinas but it's ~20 minutes away w/o traffic.

Salinas is a hop, skip & a jump from Fridays Legends event, especially now at it's new location. My Wife & I will be there, it's a great time.

Most of the cool kids get in Wednesday.

It isn't the distance, it's the volume of traffic that makes it bumper to bumper a lot of the way. Also, the new location didn't happen, it's at Rancho La Cañada again. :?

True, but not at 6am, been doing it since the beginning.
WHAT, no new location, I hadn't heard that. Guess I have some looking into when I get home. Thanks for the heads up.

Did you ever hear about why the "other" location didn't happen? Personally I like Rancho Cañada, I'm used to it and no what to expect, plus I love the twisties coming up & over the hill dropping into the beautiful Carmel Valley. ;)
Doesn't matter where it's at, we always have a great time.

Afterwards we head to the old wharf, then walk over to the downtown area and check out the cars cruising around & the cars setting up outside getting ready to head into 1 of the 3 auctions that are usually going on.

See y'all in a month! :alright: ....

No, but maybe someone will chime in.

Here's a map of where e28 guys are staying. I thought it might help in case anyone wants to meet for drinks/dinner. If you are coming let me know what area you'll be in and I'll update the map.

It had something to do with the grass, they couldn't come to an agreement as to how each blade should be positioned prior to the arrival of the show cars. Concours etiquette clearly states that each blade of grass lay with the leading edge facing west with the tip pointing to the north. The director at the Pasadera Country Club insisted that the grass should lay flat with the tip pointed to the north east. Now everyone knows that's not how its done; but the director couldn't get it through his thick head. How else are you supposed to get the proper light refraction from the grass. Some people will never learn.

Looking forward to seeing you all. I'll be there at some point but no set plans yet. It would be cool to see what events everyone plans on attending too. I'll be without a bimmer as I'm bringing all the rugrats too.

Keith, can't wait to see you and Diana. It's been too long.

I fixed my electrical issue so now I just have to fix the stereo hum, fix the cruise control and put the stock exhaust back on and I'm ready.

Me, wkohler and Jeff B are meeting OcCoupe at his house in Costa Mesa on August 16. We're going to Morro Bay where we will have dinner with Jay who's just down the road in Pismo Beach. Wednesday morning MLastovo should be in Morro Bay some time after breakfast and then we'll head over to US 101 via Old Creek Road (which is a MUST drive if you're ever in the area). We'll do some wine tasting in Paso Robles and then continue on to Pacific Grove.

Based on the M5's current mileage, it should turn 300,000 somewhere between Paso Robles and San Miguel

Uh Charles? I don't know how to tell you this but I'm leaving on the 13th. But first I have to finish restoring and cleaning my car.

We are staying at no other than the one and only

Sandpiper inn.

Hopefully the cars don't get too dirty on the way up. I learned from last year that following Charles is not a good idea, he likes to throw cigarettes and twinky wrappers out the window.

Since the e28 M5 is featured this year, Darin and I went down to La Jolla Independent today to help get Carl Nelson's car ready. There is a LOT of work to do.

This car needs to be done in three weeks.

Alrighty then

I installed an new exhaust in preparation for Monterey. I had to finish painting it and doing some touch up. I think it looks pretty good. I also sent the bumpers out to be chromed, I hope to get them installed next week.

Nice work Mike! That car must be the cleanest on the board. Detailed work like that deserves consideration of trailering it up to Monterey. Drive it back. Either way, good luck.
