I'm renewing my front springs. Is it necessary to remove the strut or can it be done just disconnecting the 3 top bolts? If not are the steering arm and brake caliber bolts usually how hard to get off. I ordered new bolts but the shop messed up my order and i didn't get them for this weekend and it's really a must to replace the springs now due to the inspection on next week.

Car is M535i -85

You can remove the wheels, loosen the bushing bolts for both control arms, remove the three strut mounting nuts, and drop the assembly so you can get the top of the assembly outside the fender (protect it from scratches/gouges). Watch to make sure you don't stretch any connections. Then, you can remove & replace the spring -- use a proper spring compressor, of course.
