WTB: BRACKET CATALYZER...used

Post by Tophdrive4u »

I know I probably won't find one that is new, however I've been running without one for years, and now that the exhaust is being replaced I'll need one. 115$ sounds like way too much for this piece.

It is illegal to sell used cats for automotive use. Recycling is allowed.

115 is cheap. The BMW part is worth twice that worn out because of the precious metals in it.

What I have learned is don't skimp and try to save a few bucks with an aftermarket replacement. They are nothing but headaches. I bought a MangaFlow cat for my E30. It has cracked already and even worse... It doesn't fit properly so it knocks the underbody of the car. Buy an OEM and save yourself a lot of headaches.

I was looking to buy one of the Magnaflow's... However I just have this crazing voice in the back of my head telling me to go ahead and buy the Ireland Engineering beauty. Does anybody realize I'm just asking for the mount? I think its part 3 or 4 in the list. Its missing on my current exhaust, but so is about two inches of metal :bawl:

Thanks for the info i had no idea it was illegal to sell used cats. However I know a lot of mechanics that will tell me otherwise to get the scrap platinum in there!

What do you mean you are just missing the mount? You didn't mention that at all in your original post. Do you need a cat or do you need downpipes, or what?

In the subject the piece mentioned is "exhaust catalyzer". This is what realoem.com calls it. I call it a mount because it seems to be the piece that connects the exhaust to the automatic transmission before the cat.
I also have the need for the downpipes/catalytic converter because mine is sounding and looking TERRIBLE!

Haha sorry about the confusion.

I'm still wondering if Bosal cats/Magnaflow cats have the piece before mentioned included? Unfortunately I don't think they do as the Bosal exhaust didn't even have the rear metal mount(perhaps a downfall of buying 14$ cheaper!)

Also, the mount is 115$ on bavauto.

RealOEM does not call that part the "Exhaust Catalyzer". That is simply the name of the parts group it is listed under. Its called a "Bracket".

This thread is a loss for me.
Unless you can find a shade tree dismantler(many on this forum)and get a complete used system then you are stuck buying aftermarket. Who has $3000 to spend on OE exhaust parts for a car that is worth $1000

It is part number 10 in the picture.
From my understanding, the bosal (oem) cat with pipes is around 250$ average. I would never pay 1000$, or 3000$. Why would I when I could fabricate the pipes for 150$?
Again, and I'll stress this as being the main point of the post, again... I am looking for the bracket as Kyle in NO has mentioned. It is not a post looking for the entire piece, I don't have a problem with that.
Again, the bracket, is listed as 115$ on bavauto.
Again, it is the piece, only for automatic transmissions, that connects the pipes to the transmission.
Again, I am looking to buy this bracket because it is missing from my car.
I'm sorry if I am using "again" too much it seems some are overthinking this...

Sorry, mate. No one is over thinking this-- you are just all over the place.

RealOEM calls it "bracket catalyzer", as in a bracket for the cat. Not "exhaust catalyzer", as in the cat itself.

Well heres the deal :

I have an exhaust with holes in it.

It does not have a bracket.

I will replace the unit as a whole, however, I need the bracket.

DOES ANYONE KNOW IF IT IS INCLUDED WHEN BUYING A NEW CAT???!!!

DOES ANYONE HAVE A BRACKET??!!

Seems easy to me, perhaps I need to go back to pre-school.

#1 Replacement catalyst assemblies do not come with the bracket for an automatic trans. Some do come with the exhaust side trans bracket, but it will be useless to you.

#2 Someone offered you a bracket from a car they are parting, if you didn't notice.

#3 Many do not bother using that bracket at all, as the exhaust system has sufficient support structure, even without that part.

#4 Get your terminology right. Half of the thread was wasted on trying to figure out which damn part you actually need.
