Shifty,

There's a reason for picking the car apart. It offers a chance for those of us that know how these cars were equipped to pointout the variances from stock. In some circles, mainly collectors, these changes although subtle degrade the value of the car.

Ron P's car is nearly perfect and is probably the best example of a Euro M5 in the US. The only thing Ron should have done when he had the car repainted was remove the side markers that were installed during federalization. However on Ron's car, the shop that did the federalization, did it in a way I've never seen done on any other Euro E28. They are nicely blended into the Euro Bumpers, not tacked onto the side of the body like on this particular car, ditto for TT's M5. FWIW, My Euro M5 doesn't have the tacked on side markers, and there is no evidence of them ever being installed when looking at the interior of the rear qtr panels. The front turns on my M5 have had dual fliament bulbs sockets installed so they function as side markers and turns. I plan on deleting this at some point.

I'd also be very wary of a 3.9L stroker engine. The E34 M5 3.8L engines had longevity problems. Duke posted that there are lot's of wornout 3.8L M5 engines available in Germany for this reason.

We also don't know what this guy wants for the car. Could be reasonable, might be out of line. Even Euro M5s have a price threshold, and it doesn't matter if you spent a ZILLION $$$s on the car, it's only worth what the market will bear. I agree with CGraff's price assessment of this car.
If I had the cash, I wouldn't pay more than $18k for this car, again, ASSUMING that the car is in tip-top shape, as advertised. IF it does have issues, no amount of investment in that engine was worth it, because it still needs work. I'd still need to put thousands into the car to make it right. At that point...$14k max.

I also have the in-bumper mounted FED. lights. I will be removing these and installing new bumper rubber front and rear. I will probably not add any side marker lights. One thing I will do that i did on my previous euro (conversion) cars is something like what rich has in his front turns.

I installed a second halogen (small) light assembly in the housing and set that up as a running light. That way I have a running light up front and also still retain the turn signal function. I think the front of the car does not look completed with the headlights on without some type of running light also. Below is a pic of my previous 535i @ 5erfest with this done.

BNC,

The intake plenum on this Euro M5 isn't the E34 M5 dual resonance version your buddy at Korman is talking about. This M5 has a late model E28 M5 plenum. If I were interested in buying this M5, I'd bae asking ALOT of questions about it's history as it seems to be built from a lot of parts.

Here's a pic of the E34M5 Plenum.

Woah there, Rich. Breathe.

I wasn't knocking y'all picking the car apart. I was knocking the guy saying he had spent ZILLIONS on the car. It was a joke!

Euro Rich,
I talked to my buddy at Korman, you are right about the plenum, he also said he wouldn't want someone elses built
3.9L, he said those motors "run on the edge" as is and not knowing the exact history of it could be costly, very costly....
If you're coming to 5er Fest he will be there....

Well, Bob :p , it's worth exactly what you and the current owner can agree on. ;)

Kentucky windage WAG, :) , after you take it to Kahler's for one of their pre-purchase inspections, figure up what you think it's worth with a perfect engine and subtract 50% of what an M5 engine costs to rebuild. :D Or something close to that, and make an offer of that figure.

[QUOTE="Bob in San Jose"]Pat,
Here's your Euro M5.

One of those rare and early M30 powered Euro M5s! nice. Can you even bore a 3.2 liter block to 3.8 liters? You'd have to stroke it or the pistons would overlap.

Nice one, Bob. :p What couldn't I do with that car if'n it were in my barn? :? I really like the special burgundy seats, and the obvious shift boot from BMW Individual. Why, the interior even has remote control. :D I am curious though--

What do you think that other device in the comfort seats does? Might it be the Swiss Army Knife of suppositories? ~0

Pat.

You and Icehaus would have it looking like RonP's M535 in no time. The "Swiss Knife" looks like a set of allen wrenches.

Ron's car is a M5, not M535i. But yes, they could have it looking good!

I believe you're right, Bob. :) That beg's the question, does the owner put them to use closed or with the wrenches out. :? :D

That's right, I was thinking of his Euro 535/Alpina clone.

Pat, maybe that's what the remote is for.

Bob
