If that had been my car, I would have wanted them to total it. With that right 1/4 pushed forward like that, the rr door is never going to be correct. Doesn't matter how much work they do to it.

I agree with Tony. On my old 528e, I had to replace the left rear quarter panel, and the doors never closed right after that. The whole body got out of whack from that accident.

Unfortunatly I've got to ditto Shiftys post. The same accident happened to my 528 and its never been the same. It didn't get totaled out and I regret it. The problem is that that particular damage can not be easily fixed.

Just a word of warning. Don't pull your rear seat bottom out. I did and it will not come close to fitting any longer. That whole section of the car compresses even though it may not appear so. Are there any bulges or creases in your rockers? Mine buckled up ever so slightly right below the corner of the door.

dang i got rear ended by a guy going 20 or 30 and i had no frame damage.. it was checked out and the doors and all close fine still. About how fast was the guy going dinan?

Here's my response from a couple of days ago, when you mentioned they weren't going to total your 5er..

Make sure and check the rear framerails very carefully. A really nice feature of the US bumper shocks in a rearend mishap is framerail damage. This happens if the person that hits you was doing in excess of 5mph. If the speed was faster than 5 mph, the bumper shocks can fully compress at which point they transfer the engery of the impact directly into the frame rail.

Seriously though, the design of the car/truck/paper that hit you has just as much to do with how much your car compresses as the design of your rear bumper. If the car that hits you is made of, say, iron, steel, titanium, or brick, you're screwed! If, on the other hand, said car is made of lots of aluminum, flimsy plastic, or a few sheets of paper, you're set!

My guess would be that a newer car would give your car much more of a chance since many new cars are made of plastic and they ALL have uber-engineers over-engineering the crumple zones to completely deform the front of the car in the event of a small accident.
