I changed my mind on doing the valve cover in red. It's currently bare aluminum with the raised portions polished.

I had hoped to be driving the car over the weekend but my senses got the better of me and I spent some time rerouting, cleaning things up and planning out new things.
The engine is in and about 95% ready to run. I wanted to get the exhaust lined up to the new euro rear tail panel. What started out as simply cutting the rear box and welding back in on center turned into a complete re-alignment of the entire system. I ended up taking 2" off the downpipe and pushing the center muffler up and back. The rear tips are faux at the moment. Copying the eta tips, BMW decided to curve the pipes after the back box. Whatever their reason, that made centering the magnaflow impossible on my car. So now the muffler sits all the way to the left, the left tip comes straight out and the right tip is riding tandem and not connected to the exhaust system. George, if you're reading, can you contact me on making a custom stainless tip?

Just seeping ? It may seal up if you get lucky . Always had to install Bars Leak on my Aluminum Sprint car motors, kinda like a little insurance.M. Holtmeier wrote:Son of a bitch! Of course the first freeze plugs out of hundreds that leak on me would be this effing car!
Where's my Bar's...
Everything else seems to be running good. I should be hitting the dyno on Fri or Sat if I can get this seeping plug sealed up.
Looking forward to how you like your latest mods, and BTW where did your 745i end up ?

...every single one of them. Thought I'd try genuine BMW plugs this time. The ones on my old engine say "Made in the USA" on them and it was a non issue when installed the same way.
I sold the 7 to a lot porter here at the dealer. They fired him 2 days later for not showing up to work. Either he loved driving the car so much he didn't want to come in or he broke it the first day and was without wheels. I never got a phone call or anything.

As long as these plugs seal up and I can get the rings seated before the dyno. It's running really good too.
I've used silicone, green permatex(sleeve & bearing), anaerobic sealer, etc. I've put them in dry and into painted blocks. All sealed up, no issues. The last engine I painted first and scuffed the openings before driving them in. Now I'll add to my list: Install, fill with coolant and add stop leak!

I've installed more than a few freeze plugs and never had any problems. Most were installed dry but I have tried Permatex. I have seen cases where new freeze plugs seeped, which is a real pisser!
I have no proof of this but, I suspect it is to do with the tin/aluminum (or what ever it is) coating on the plugs. If the coating is uneven or scratched I can see how it would leak. It take some force to install the plugs, damage could happen I suppose. I remember back in my Hot Rod days when shops would actually drill the flats of the plugs and install self tapping screws to lock the plugs in.
That said, every seeping plug I've seen, sealed itself in a few hundred miles or so. A few days seemed to be the norm. I think the iron block rusts just a bit and the rust seals the leak.
Frustrating I'm sure, I hope it rectifies itself.
