It all depends on your own definition of maximum potential. I would have rather seen a BMW swap go into such a clean grey market e28, but I respect Jeremy's execution and attention to quality in the swap.
The wheel/tire setup and the fitment, however:
My taste buds say yum.

I can admire all the hard work that went into this. I would like to see engine compartment photos .
Were you able to get new transplant engine to work with the factory gauges etc ?

I own both an e28 and two early 80s Supras so this amuses the crap out of me.
Best of both worlds! BMW iron with Supra power. I'm sure the 1jz was cheaper that the engine mods for an m20.

Am I a big fan of the whole stance fad? No, not really. However at least he's driving and enjoying his car. If he wants to do the increased repairs due to the lowness so be it. I don't see the problem?

I like it, and I like seeing people on here get mad, so it's a win/win!

Jeremy- I think the car looks awesome, it's come such a long way since you first got it. I couldn't really see in the pics, but I'm assuming you got a new exhaust?! I loved the look with the tips you had on there before, what were those again? I need something like that for the e34. See you around.

All of you that have never met this dude have totally the wrong idea, not the type of guy most are assuming..

We have a bunch of E28 enthusiasts who "like" them for different reasons here.

Those who think they are cool cars, but that's about the limit of their interest in them beyond providing transportation.
Those who are simply trying to restore one and turn a profit (try being the operative word).
Those who saw/drove them, and it was love at first sight/drive (purists you could say).
Those who get bored with cars very quickly and just need project upon project to keep them occupied, don't really care much about what it is because they won't be here long.
Those who just want a new platform to do some crazy stuff to, and the price was right (Monster Garage was their favorite show).

What the problem seems to be to me is that most of those types think they are here because of their particular reason for owning one of these cars.

Regarding the cross brand engine swaps on any vehicle, I'd just buy (or save for) the car with the engine I wanted if it's that big a deal.

I am not a fan of these conversions. I think you guys should do your 'stance' thing on an M1 next.

I agree with Johnny. Jeremy knows I am not always a fan of the non-traditional wheels, but I got to ride in this recently and I must say the engine transplant is definitely a job well done.

I'm no fan of the "stance", but I REALLY like this car. A lot. The appetite for oil pans is pretty silly, but whatever. Not my ride. IMO, Murfinator's car looks too much like eBay exploded inside. Nothing wrong with it if you like that sort of thing, just not my taste. At least Moose is doing something different. Good job!

I can top that. Stanced Bugatti Type 41 Royale with a 302 (or a boosted B18C5). Roll that through Christie's.

Your words here don't fit with what you wrote here:
"The bumpers and front end are 100% original, no wanna-be swap here.

Putting Jeremy's car completely aside here, I find it ironic that you pose the way do with your mods and throw little jabs like this in about other people who modify their E28s. It is hypocritical.

I can now throw the exact same argument you've been dishing out for so long right back in your face;
So what if my car isn't a true euro car? It's my car and my choice to take the US bumpers off and convert my front end and bumpers to what I believe is the way BMW designed the car. Actually, that is the way BMW designed the car and not my belief, but who are you tell me what I can and cannot believe?

So, do I deserve to be called a "wanna be" because I hung euro bumpers on my US car? I've never talked or even had ill thoughts towards you or your work, but when throw out insults in your articles directed to your other "brethren" of BMW owners who make modifications, it just makes you look to be the dick. I do take offense to that comment in your article and find it condescending.

Not sure how to put this one, but you took that the wrong way. It's a joke. My own car is a wannabe car. Relax a bit. I'd put euro bumpers on US cars every day of the week. It's cool. I support it.

We're all euro wanna-bes and that's 100% okay. It's the truth. We want our cars to look like the european counterparts. Jeremy's is the real deal, aka not a wanna-be. ;)

Don't be so quick to take things personally. Sorry that you interpreted it the way you did, bud.

I like it! :D

What would have had me jumping on a plane to give the guy a slap would have been if he had covered it in home made spoilers!! :argue:

The real star of the show are the wheels. The e28 is the picture frame to the portrait that are the wheels.

As a 3D piece of art it looks great. Life would be so boring if everybody did the same thing.

Having said that it's engine is no where near as special as my baby ;)

Clean swap, looks nice. I would say the article strains quite a bit, as those wheels were not "ruined" merely cosmetically fucked up but repairable. Ruined would be annealed to the point of being unusable. I polished up a set of burned style 5s. It isn't rocket science and it took maybe 2 days of hard work.
Moose wrote:FWIW, I ran out of time before having to leave for IA to redo my motor mounts. I did not have the car this low before with the 1J so it was not an issue, and two bridge transitions that practically ended in a speed bump claimed it both times. It has the new mounts in now, and the pan is way up out of the way and will not be an issue again.
I was going to say that if you kept bashing oil pans and were proud of that, that it would mean there is something wrong with you. All you'd have to do is raise the motor or fab up a larger but more shallow pan (or go dry sump.)

Anything is better than a stock eta motor, but I don't think 300whp is using the E28 to its "full potential". It is quite respectable and bests any stock E28, but there are many turbo M20s, M30s, built S38s and swapped E28s that can boast numbers equal to (and far far greater than) 300rwhp. To boot, they can be driven daily just like this one and more than a few of them sport some pretty fine looking rolling stock.

To sum up: like the car, the article was wishy washy. Hopefully someone can give better coverage of the technical aspects of the car.

PS. 300rwhp, 215 tires? Don't think that motor can really be used to its full potential.

The motor is on the factory twins, with the factory ECU for now. Going to a single setup and different engine management (or even a piggy back off the factory) yields 400+ easily, I am just enjoying it as is for now :) . As said in my other thread, the one I actually made, it is an ongoing project.

As far as the tire comment, this is obviously not the set of wheels/tires I would use to really beat on the car with, but they grip just fine for any street driving.

Which car? The Ta'Hoe or the E28? You like the interior of the E28 which is the subject of this thread? I can understand if you like two decades of wear on a stock interior. To each his own.

The interior of the E28 has too many "upgrades" for my taste. Mats, knobs, pedals, seats...doesn't do it for me. Sorry. Nice and understated is my preferred style. I love the way the outside looks though. A clean Diamondshwarz BMW looks incredibly good to me.

Your interior is cluttered IMO. Your attempt to modernize it, and create a "Check list" of mods does not necessarily yield a better end result. I prefer a factory e28 interior to yours, I would have spent the money restoring it to original condition, or at the least got something a bit more period correct for the seats. I do not think Sparcos with blue harnesses, among other mods fit an e28 very well. If you are happy with it though, more power to you, obviously many others feel differently.

Honestly, in what way was I backpedaling? You do realize that my own personal car has a set of euro bumpers waiting to go on, right? Get over it, god damn this forum is the biggest group of vaginas on the planet.

I honestly expected the E9 board to top this place, seeing as it's an older car, older demographic, but jesus christ, you people are just insane. You're all crazy in-laws.

Thanks dude, missed this post somehow! The tips are still there, it is just a dual 3" straight cut single wall setup. They are painted black so its a bit hard to see in some of photos, it was actually something I had just welded up for my old M20, really easy to do.
