Tire Opinions - RE760 vs. ExtremeContact DW?

For one looking for an easy ride with moderate sportiness might the Bridgestone RE760 Sport be a "better" choice than the Continental ExtremeContact DW or the other way around?

I've been reading up on tires recently myself and the ExtremeContact DW gets great reviews. I'll probably be getting a set for my new M5 wheels in the next few months.

I have been happy with my re760s. I have them on my e39 M5 and also on my Z3.
I like Continental, but feel they wear out before their time.

all comes down to what type of ride you prefer, the weather you are going to drive in, and turn in performance......a some personal preference

I prefer PS2s, best performance of all of these, slightly harsher ride than either the Conti or Bridgstone, and not a great wet weather tire.....unless you go with PS2 A/S

PS2's are great tires for overall driving. I am a bit more tilted to performance. My choice would be Yoko Advan Neova AD08's. A bit less smooth, but the grip is amazing.

While I do agree that the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 is outstanding tire, it is not available in 16" inch sizes.

True, the PS2 is not, but the PS2 A/S is available - this is what I put on the 36k mile car

I've been very happy with the RE760's I currently have on the M5. They are great for the way I drive that car, though that is fair-weather driving, and not on a track. I was planning on buying another set of RE760's for the new wheels I bought from DPP.

The reviews of the Conti DW's are quite good. Given their pricing and how they compare to PS2's, I'll give them serious consideration - but I've never driven them.

Unrelated - it is pretty amazing how the PS2's have held up over time. I've got a pair of fronts on the shelf for the ZHP, and I can't wait to burn through the last of the Z1 Star Spec's I'm running on that car. The Z1's stick like mad, but they are loud, harsh, and heavy. PS2's are such a great tire - and the DW's rate even higher, with a lower price point. Big win-win.

It really does depend on the type and frequency of driving you intend to do, and the conditions you mostly experience.
I recently deliberated over all the brands discussed above and more, but in the end I settled for the Goodyear 'Efficient Grip'.
This is a top quality tyre, made in Germany, super quiet and offering an "easy ride with moderate sportiness" as Cory prefers.
I was amazed at how they totally transformed my M5's ride and handling after the old Bridgestone directionals that it had when I bought it.
And the price was considerably less than the other big name high performance brands, too.
Again, it comes back to personal preference, but I can certainly recommend these highly under-rated tyres.

I have the continental extremecontact DWS. I couldn't be happier they grip forever and rain doesn't seem to have any effect. I praised them so much my room mate bought a set for his Audi A8.

I had RE760s on my 535i, they were decent tires but didn't last as long as I hoped. I have no experience with the DW so I have no opinion on them.

I plan on buying Toyo Proxes T1R tires for my staggered ALPINA open lugs simply because they are the only company I can find still offering a 245/45/16 tire. My plan is to run a 225/50/16 on the front and 245/45/16 in the rear.

I've found them online at a decent price. The 225/50/16s are $115 ea, the 245/45/16s are $126 ea. + S/H.

Conti tires,are the best tires for the Rain.

But no matter how great you drive or your alignment they will wear way to soon. The 760 is a Decent tire, Its not a great tire.

They have the 900 or the Pole postion series tires.

Potenza's are not good for wet.

I have the Conti Extreme DW on the E28 M5 and really like the tires. I have 3200 miles on the car post rebuild and once I could get the RPM's up I have been very impressed, just incredible and the price was right. Great in dry, wet, corners, and highway ride. I have had the Bridgestone RE760 on the E39 and they were fair, longer lasting was a plus. I also considered the Vredestein Ultrac Cento.

I have the Ultrac Sessanta onthe E39 M5 and love them! Check the M5 board, as good as the PS2 and 2/3 of the price.

We don't normally get a lot of rain, but of course the last 3 months for us have been VERY wet. These tires seem to ignore the rain altogether. Even when I went so far as to test the Anti-lock on the new car, I couldn't get them to let go in a half inch of water at speed.

But I realize they are not the best tire in the world, and not for everyone. I am just amazed at the wet road grip. The S38 has no problem freeing the grip when called upon

I decided to go with the General Altimax HP for the staggered Alpinas as I wanted an all season tire. The survey results are very good and at $436 shipped from Tire Rack, the price was right.
