Heater Valve / Temp Control Knob Issues

Post by race2win »

Hey guys, I'm fairly new here so my apologies for the newb post. I have been searching this subject a bit, but haven't been able to pinpoint my exact issue.

At first, I was pretty certain my heater valve was bad...I get warm air from all vents when I am parked or driving at slower speeds, yet I get colder air when I am on the freeway. However, the past couple days the weather has warmed up a bit (first time since I have owned the car), & I now notice a different issue. I went to turn the temp control knob to the cold side & there was still hot air coming from the vents....the temp control appears to have no affect on the air temps coming out of the heater. Could a bad heater valve cause this issue as well?

My coolant temp appears a bit below what others say is normal...it ranges from just above the blue to about 10:00 or so, maybe it just needs a T-Stat? I will check that in the morning, but since I do in fact get warm air inside I don't think that is the issue (still might be an issue, but maybe a seperate one).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions, just sorting out some small issues on an otherwise solid new-to-me 535is

Remove your kick panel above drivers knees-- confirm the vacuum line and wiring to the temp sensor is complete and intact.

Check bmwfans.info for diagram.

Thanks, I will check that out this morning. I had the lower dash panel apart once & didn't notice anything disconnected, but I will look closer to make sure everything is connected. So if it is not connected, or if the sensor is bad, that would cause the temp control knob not to function? If it is connected, is there a way to test it to see if it's functioning properly?

Again sorry for the newbie questions, just trying to wrap my head around how the heater system functions in these cars.
