Has anyone had a Jim Blanton transmission installed?
I am selling a kidney to get mine overhauled there.
A wonderful conversation with Jim Blanton convinced me
that he is the best man for the job.

What can he do for a 1987 M6 differential?
Mine is factory and works fine.
The car will never be tracked or raced.
Just a Sunday cruiser.
Then I would leave it alone. He can re-build it if it needs it and can change the % lockup in your LSD. If it's quiet and you keep the fluid clean, it should last for a long while in it's current configuration.
This is all very good to hear.
My new M535i has both a Blanton rebuilt transmission and 3.64LSD 50% rear differential. I plan on exercising them as much as possible .
I've got a Blanton VLSD in my zhp - I felt it was the one thing that car really lacked from the factory. What a fabulous chunk of differential. Jim's a great guy, incredible fount of knowledge, and always willing and able to talk about transmissions or diffs.
That said, if the rear end in your M6 is fine, I'd leave it as-is.
