what are you running for exhaust at the head? manifolds or headers? i remember your autocross videos where it was very raspy like my shark, i just went from b35 manifolds and head pipes to stahl headers and the difference is unbelievable (i think in raw flow the b35 manifolds may be bigger) the rest of the exhaust is unchanged went from 2" e34 head pipes chopped just forward of the converter behind the o2 sensor where it splits back into 2 pipes, from there into a magnaflow crossover muffler and then into a e24/28 stainless muffler of some kind (once thought to be a stebro but unsure now) with the headers the rasp is completely gone and it even sounds better at idle, on the interstate its more quiet at pretty much any speed, with the manifold system it had a zone around 75 mph where it would loose a few DB and then it would come back up to the normal sound level at a higher speed (like it had found its resonance)
to cut this long winded prattle to the point i suspect the rasp was the out of tune system fighting with itself, i don't smell unburnt fuel in the exhaust or get pop and burble on deceleration (if you cracked the throttle to get the injectors back on it would fart and pop) anymore. it may of lost a touch below 2k if anything but pulls like a mother all of the way to 6500. something to think of if your rasp is like mine
couple shots of the system pre headers
i chopped the head pipes just forward of the stock e34 merge and connected there, smallest pipe in the old system is 2" od the collectors on the headers are 1.75" od
