Upping/controlling the boost? (kinda long)

Post by Nebraska_e28 »

I've been running around 7.5 lbs of boost for the last month or so & am loving it! Maybe it's just me but this definitely feels (and sounds) like a comfortable boost level for a bone stock motor with 200k+ on it. When I say that, I mean there's no detonation under wot & it doesn't feel like it's gonna blow up or anything. My first question is this... When you make that first big leap from a lower boost level to a higher one ~14psi were you on pins/needes on how the motor would hold up?

It probably wont be till next year when I start cranking things up, but is THIS the boost solenoid most of you' are running? The cheapest I've found this is on ebay for about $60 shipped including the pigtail. Can this be had cheaper elsewhere?

Are you pretty happy with it's performance? I've been debating mbc vs. ebc & I guess the cheaper route is ebc. This also sounds like the better route performance-wise though I've heard a mbc is pretty much failproof.

I have 2 spare motors right now &next year I hope to do a complete rebuild so I'm not too concerned with breaking things as long as it's nowhere near the time of 5erFest.

Fuck no. 20 is when I get worried on 91 octane.

A good EBC will run you $300+. It will allow you to achieve a lot more control about how much boost the motor sees. It will also help spool by keeping the WG closed until the correct pressure is achieved.

A MBC can allow you to retain threaded fittings which ultimately makes it very difficult to over boost.

The plan is to let MS control boost. As far as solenoids, do you there is much (if anything) to be gained running something like this solenoid instead of this one HERE?

It's more or less the controller of the sel'd.

I was using the gm style and switched over to spring during my boost discrepancy. I noticed a slightly quicker spool with MS controlling the sel'd on the top port of the WG. (and a .5 bar spring)

I need to switch back over to MS EBC.
