Randy,
This is EXCELLENT news! I'm glad Daryl was able to make it today or you and I would still be out there adjusting the valves by moonlight :~ Nice work Daryl....I learned something today about the m30
Thanks! Sorry I couldn't stay longer to witness the rise of "Blue Thunder" from the ashes of the "Blue Turd"
Keep us posted and thanks again for the Warsteiners, snacks, and minor detailing (cleaner wax) you did on my bronzit beast
Much appreciated...
Best,
Tim

You started it without an ICV? ~0
Must be fun trying to keep it running!

Randy, that is great to hear. My heart sunk a little reading your posts in which the car wasnt running. Did you take a lot of pictures, or any documentation of the whole procedure? How much did things cost ya, already having the modern motronics? Im glad that you and others have paved the way for M20 conversion madness. I am still debating whether to buy a complete 325i engine for parts, or keep scrounging for the bits and pieces I will need.
Next beer I drink, will be to "Blue Thunder".
Cheers,
Chris

Wan mo thing, here's an article on how to adjust the TPS and AFM on an "i" spec engine. Works beautifully, Randy.
Congrats on your success. How about a MAF for it now.

Just drove the "Thunder" this am for the first time in over a month! 1st got gas ! 2nd plug leak in rear tire !! 3rd got oil changed & dog bones installed !!(less than $20.00!!) Butt-o-meter says it pulls all the way from idle(950rpm) to 6,500 w/ no flat spots ! Never really nailed it Figure give the head a little "break-in" time first !? Fast Pat Q did you change over all of the "i" air flow goodies or reprogram the old "e" AFM & MAF ????? Thanks again to all !!!!! Randy/Fla.
I have a 1990 model year 325i, so it came with all the "i" stuff, sorta' cheating I suppose, but scoping out how it works might be helpful to others. It's my opinion that to get the best results from a switch from eta to "i" specs, a post 1988 "i" wiring harness and ECU ought be used since it's Motronics 1.3, the best offered on an M20 engine. Or, you can investigate and install a MegaSquirt system and beat it all, it's much better and will offer full sequential control of the injectors in about 9 months, won't that be special
.
I don't have a MAF yet, just really thinking about one. The kit Split Second has for a 325i (in the photo), and by default an e28 528i would use the same I think, is so clean looking that I may just have to get one. $772.00 gets you all the goodies to bolt it in, the "signal conditioner" is programable with a laptop, or you can pay extra and get the cockpit adjustable controller ($900.00+). I'm a set it and forget it type, once it's adjusted I don't want to play with it, so I'll get it at the lower price. The signal conditioner takes the input from the MAF and outputs a signal the Bosch ECU expects from the OEM AFM. I've sent email to Split Second about the system, so I'll post the info when I get it if it's significant.
