Throttle body hardware question

Post by L_N_Love »

Are your throttle body funnels attached with regular nuts or with cap nuts like those used on the VC? Realoem shows M6 nuts. Mine has cap nuts and a few regular nuts. I am having the VC and plenum refinished and wondered which I should use when I re-attach the plenum.

Interesting, my s38b36 has acorn nuts on both the VC and intake with different part numbers. RealOEM shows the b35 with acorn nuts just on the VC and a regular nuts on the intake. I think the acorn nuts look better.

From McMaster Carr- these will be stainless. You should measure the length of the stud sticking out to make sure it'll be deep enough. I may order some first, since I have rusting steel ones on my throttles and mine need to be taken apart since they stick when they get really hot.

My M6 has them everywhere including the air filter box attachment points. When I was replacing the filter and plenum rubber I even found a spare that had fallen down into the front body rail cavity. Assume they are all original fitment.

My '85 Euro M5 was completely stock except for the exhaust system and wheels. There were standard hex nuts fastening the air horn assemblies to the TBs. The only acorn nuts on my engine were used with the valve cover.

Same goes for my euro M635. Hex nuts, not acorns, everywhere except the valve cover.
